Thank you so much for all your work at the Old Brick Church. My Waggoner/Williams family was in Hancock county in the 1830's and 1840's. One daughter of that family (Elizabeth Williams) married a Kentucky man named John BOX and resided in Littleton, Schuyler County, where they died in 1900 and 1901 (Thompson Cemetery). Grigg's history says the Peter & Rebecca Williams and her Waggoner brothers were the first settlers in Commerce (now Nauvoo). The brothers became highly regarded steamboat pilots around St. Louis. Rebecca died only a couple of years after they moved to IL from Ohio and is buried on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River along with her infant daughter. We don't have any idea where this gravesite might be. Now here is the interesting part: John BOX's mother was a WEAVER, and some of the WEAVER's came from KY to Schuyler, IL around the same time. (1850's or so). Unfortunately, I don't have much on the WEAVER's or BOX's. Thank you for all your excellent work at the Old Brick. I await patiently everyday for anything more you might find about my folks. I hadn't thought of checking that. Your message reminded me to check the names of members of the Old Brick church, and I did find that a William N. Weaver joined in August 1866. I don't know the dates of his birth or death, but it may be that he was related to the B. F. Weaver whose stone I found. The death records in the courthouse begin later than 1869, so I know that will not help. Another thing to check is the card file at the Historical Society, to see if there is anything on William N. Weaver, or B. F. Weaver. Thanks again, Robert
I would wonder if Rebecca is buried in what is known as the Riverside Cemetery. It isn't far from Waggoner Creek south of Nauvoo and high upon a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. There are a number of early burials there and for some years it was not actively used. There seems to be renewed interest in the burial ground in recent years and there are new burials there now. It is a beautiful and restful setting. I don't know if Shawnee has gotten Riverside posted yet but that would be my first suspicion as to where you might find Rebecca and her child.
