Dear friends, This morning we attended the Memorial Day program at Moss Ridge cemetery. Then I went out and mowed around the bridge south of the Old Brick Cemetery. My wife and daughter and I spent most of the afternoon trying to measure the locations of the stones (the ones we could find) in the Old Brick Cemetery, in hopes of preparing a plat (knowing beforehand that it will be very imperfect). There were at least four stones which we know once existed there (as there are pictures on Ron Bryant's website), which we did not find (we may have overlooked them - or, does anyone know what has happened to these?): Hanna C. Wardwell Jane Mapes Horrace Gridley Jesse Barnum (spelled Garnum on lists we have seen) Besides a baby rabbitt, a snake, and other creatures who were there visiting, we found two stones which were not on the burial lists we have seen: William T. Thurber John W. Thurber We found at least six or severan bases for which we found no stone, but we didn't do any probing, and undoubtedly there are stones hidden by the grass. We found no stones for any of the following which are believed to be buried in the cemetery (at least they are on the lists), and would like to know if anyone knows whether there are or have been stones for any of them: William Cravens Martin Thurber William W. Shaw Purley Jones William Kimbrough Elizabeth Cravens Joseph Cravens Mary Cravens Charles E. Cravens Elizabeth Tolman Lucretia Wright Bryant Frank Austin George W. Cravens (we found a footstone marked G. W. C.) Carrie Printy Joseph Bryant Rebecca Kimbrough Henry H. Printy John C. Berry Marion A. Munson We made notes regarding what appears to be misspelling or wrong dates on several burials in the lists. Wardwell > Jane Mapes > Horrace Gridley > Jesse Barnum (spelled Garnum on lists we have seen) If you roll over the gravestone for Roxanna Gridley, you will see the inscription for Horace Gridley. It is almost as perfect as the day it was inscribed. The stone for Hannah C. Wardwell was laying flat on the ground when I found it. I still have a photo of it. It may be covered over by weeds. > Besides a baby rabbitt, a snake, and other creatures who were there > visiting, we found two stones which were not on the burial lists we have > seen: > William T. Thurber > John W. Thurber Now you make me wish that I had come down there and helped. William T. Thurber is my GGG grandfather. Do you remember which quadrant of the cemetery those stones were in? Were they near the stone for James Thurber?
