Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.hancock/2297.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The building that you are asking about is known locally simply as "The Battery Factory." On this location first was "Hill Distillery" which burned in 1865. The Hill family and associates built another building (the one that stands today) in its place. It was "The Warsaw Woolen Mill." It was operated as such for 30 years. Then it was run as "Huiskamp Shoe Factory" from 1904 until 1938. Then it became the "Grant Storage Battery Company" and then "Electric Storage Battery Company." But if you ever want anyone in this area to know what you are talking about, you just call it "The Battery Factory." If you have any other questions about Warsaw or Hancock County, I would be happy to oblige. By the way this information is obtained from the many history books that Hancock has published, not just from my head.
