    3. As for the info about Minnie Swanson--the Augusta Eagle is on microfilm. Ruth and Ralph Phillips purchased a lot of the files of the old Augusta Eagle when that auction happened a few years ago and they worked diligently to make scrapbooks of the vital statistics for the area historical societies. Randy, you can contact the Hancock County Historical Society for the obit that you are wanting. The Augusta library may have additional info about her, too, as she was the librarian for many years. I recall that there is a nice silhouette of her, framed and hanging at the library. The TriCounty Historical Society has been dissolved and items held by that group have been divided among the societies in the appropriate counties. Anyone wishing info that might have been held in this area should go to the county organizations if they do not find what they want in the village libraries.

    3. The Hancock County Historical Society 3rd Floor Courthouse Carthage, IL 62321 They have an extensive card index and will do limited research in their collection. Their card index includes obituaries, cemetery inscriptions, newspaper clippings, county histories and scads of other materials. Volunteers do the work, so don't expect them to compile your entire family history. The society is a wonderful source of information--if you haven't used it you may wish to try. They have a significant newspaper collection for Carthage. The Historical Society also has the portion of the Illinois Marriage Index for Hancock County. I know she died in Waukegan, IL in 1971. I would like to get a copy of her obituary and any other pertinent information, as I am planning to do a book on the family, especially Minnie.
