I have a Pioneer People column from the Hancock County Quill, dated June, 14,1989. This column contains a number of snippets of information about local happenings. One item reads as follows: "Jeremiah Shaw died Nov. 6, 1879 of cancer of the stomach - 61 years old. He was buried at the mound." Can anyone tell me what "the mound" was?
