An obituary I have for Rice Harris says he was born August 11, 1844, at Big Neck, Adams County, Illinois. His father Solomon Harris came to Houston township, Adams co., Ill. in 1831. Rice Harris joined Bear Creek Regular (Primitive) Baptist church, of Adams Co., in 1860, and was ordained by that church in November 1863. In 1866 he moved to Kansas and joined Coal Creek church, near Iola, in Allen Co., Kansas. He served as pastor there and farmed. Rice Harris returned to Hancock Co., Illinois, in 1870, and joined Bethel church southeast of Basco in October 1871, and farmed and preached in this vicinity until 1920, when he moved to Missouri (probably to be near one of his children). Rice Harris died July 27, 1933, at the home at 2210 Hope Ave., Hannibal, Mo. One source I have says he was married five times; his obituary says his wife who survived was Martha. The obituary says he had seventeen children, another source I have says eighteen. I'm not a genealogist, and am not related, so don't have proof of these facts, but offer them in case they might help. I do have a photo of Rice Harris. Also have an obituary of his father, Solomon, and I think a photo of Solomon and his wife also exists. Several Harris family genealogists already have all that I can share with them, and they have given me some information which I have in a file here. I probably should have just referred you to them to begin with rather than giving this account myself, but since today would have been Rice Harris's birthday, thought I would reply anyway. I don't know the answer on the connection with the Childress family.
