Posted on: Hancock County, Il Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Hancock?read=991 Surname: Davis, Tyler, Putt ------------------------- The following is not the information you have specifically requested, but may be of help in your research. This is an extract from T.H. Gregg's "History of Hancock Co., IL" printed in 1880, p 772-775 (p.773 is a photo and p.774 is blank). "Henry Davis was born in Bedford county, Pa., Dec. 9, 1815, and is a son of William and Maria (Putt) Davis (deceased), also natives of the same county. Mr Davis was reared on a farm, and at the age of 18 he removed with his parents to Zanesville, Ohio, where he engaged as pilot on a steamer between Zanesville and Dresden, for three years. He then went to Jackson county, Ohio, where he operated a steam grist and saw mill for about five years. He then, in 1846 came to this county and settled in Praire tp., where he still resides, and is engaged in farming and stock-raising. He was married in 1840 to Miss Mary Ann Tyler, by whom he has had 8 children; of these, 4 are living; vis., Jane, James A., Maria E. and Richard Edwin......" The rest of the article discusses James A.'s Civil War service. If the above is correct, your Timothy Tyler did not come to Hancock Co with his daughter and son-in-law from Jackson Co. NJ in 1847, as you imply, but rather came from Jackson Co. OH in 1846. Also, instead of looking for an Edward R. Davis, perhaps you should be looking for a Richard Edwin Davis! I am not researching these families, but only passing on information contained in the Hancock Co History.
