He was born Sept. 14, 1928, in Hamilton, the son of Harley Jennings and Mabel Ellefritz VanDyke. He married Ruth Edmondson in Hamilton on Nov. 26, 1955. She survives. VanDyke graduated from Nauvoo High School in 1946. He went to grade school in Carthage and Nauvoo. He worked during high school for the telephone company and the Santa Fe Railroad. He also worked for Central Illinois Public Service Company in Carthage, Quincy and Macomb, for over 20 years. He farmed in Clark County, Mo., from 1963 to 1992, when he retired to Revere. He loved duck hunting and dogs. VanDyke was a member of the Illinois National Guard, and was called to service for the Army during the Korean War. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Carthage, a member of the American Legion and has served on the Revere School Board for nine years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one aunt: Elizabeth Ellefritz of Carthage; cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services were held Nov. 12 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, Mo., with the Rev. Beryl Cragg officiating. Interment was at Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.
