Il Obituaries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/HancockObits?read=203 Surname: Boston, Kennedy, Morris, Naylor, Todd ------------------------- The Carthage Republican Carthage, Illinois Wednesday October 30, 1895 Page 5 Column 1 Death of Solomon Kennedy Solomon Kennedy was born in Davidson county, North Carolina, May 20, 1813; died at his home in this city, Wednesday morning, October 23, 1895, aged 82 years, 5 months and 3 days. Mr. Kennedy was married to Miss Cynthia Morris, September 15, 1832. To them four children were born, all of whom, except Mrs. James Boston, are dead. In 1834 he removed to Illinois and settled in Morgan county, near Jacksonville, where he resided until 1836, when he moved to McDonough county. In 1843 he changed his residence to Hancock county and settled on a farm about five miles southeast of Carthage, where he resided until 1875, when he removed to this city, which be made his home up to the time of his death. At an early day he united with the sect known as the "Old School Baptists." but shortly after taking up his residence in this city he united with the Presbyterian church, of which he remained a true and consistent member until death. He was a member of Hancock lodge, No. 20, A. F. & A. M., and a charter member of the Eastern Star. He was a devoted member of these orders, and they, by his request, performed the burial ceremony at the grave. The wife, with whom he lived for sixty-three years, with the daughter, survive him. Mr. Kennedy was honorable citizen, and many friends and acquaintances in the county sympathize with the family at his death. The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon, Dr. Hyde officiating. Solomon Kennedy leaves to his wife, Synthia, $1,000 and the income from house and contents in Carthage and from 80 acres in Carthage township, which after her death goes to his grandson, Ellis R. Boston. To Susannah G. Boston, his daughter, the income from or to live on 260 acres in Carthage township; also the balance of moneys, notes, etc., which are not herein before provided for. Should Ellis R. Boston survive his mother, he shall inherit all. Ellis R. Boston and Susannah G. Boston, executors. Dated May 25, 1895. Samuel Naylor, Samuel Naylor, jr., and Annie Todd, witnesses.
