Il Obituaries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/HancockObits?read=145 Surname: Thompson ------------------------- Obituary Bowen Illinois Newspaper September 2, 1917 Lewis Thompson, passed away after a lingering illness of about four weeks at his home last Friday morning. Lewis Thompson, a well known and highly respected citizen who has made his home in this city for the passed several years, moving from his farm south of town to this place. Mr. Thompson, was taken seriousely ill about four weeks ago with stomach and liver trouble, and although the best medical attention and care was given him his condition gradually grew worse until the end came last Friday morning, August 31st; at five o'clock. Mr. Thompson, was born in Anderson County, Kentucky, February 10, 1852 and was sixty-five years, six months and twenty-one days old. With his parents he came to Hancock County, Illinois in 1854 and has since that time made his home in the county, with the exception of one year which he spent in Oklahoma. He was united in marriage to Miss Amelia Owen on April 1, 1875. To this union nine children were born, two of whom died in infancy. He is survived by his widow and seven children, Mrs. Melgee Jones of Yukon, Oklahoma, Mrs. W.O.Bottorff, Kewanee, Illinois, Mrs. Amelia Geoffrey, Mrs. Ira Smith, Mrs. A.E.Thompson and R.W.Binkley of this city and one son William of Quincy. Fifteen grandchildren and a number of other relatives. The funeral services were held from the Christian Church Sunday September 2, 1917, at 1:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. W.A.Taylor, pastor of the Christian Church at Antioch, Illinois and a large audience was present to proclaim their last sad tribute to the deceased. Mrs. A.E.Thompson, was unable to attend the funeral services owing to her physical condition which confined her to bed. The remains was laid to rest in the Ebenezer cemetery.
