Hi! I am looking for information on a William Smith who lived in Hancock County, Il. before 1850. The 1850 Mortality Schedule for Hancock County shows that William died in January, age 50, Gabriella, his wife, died in March; and Austin their son, died Dec. 20 1849, age 24. They were listed as dying from "lung fever." I do have a list of his children. In the old write-ups in the Carthage Newspapers about the Smith Reunion, Caleb Booth Smith had a brother William Smith. Caleb was my great great grandfather, born in Virginia in Dec. 1801. He married Mary Ann Reuck in Jefferson Co., Ky. They came to Illinois in 1830. The Caleb Smith who lived in Shamrock is supposed to be a descendant of the old Caleb Smith's brother, William. If anyone has any information as to these people, I would be most grateful and would be happy to share information. I believe this William Smith to have a relationship with The Joseph Smith; perhaps through marriage. Thanks. J. Coleen Dochterman.
