    3. Finally mowed Old Brick cemetery again, today, after nearly a month (due to dry conditions). Yesterday afternoon I did some more mortar work on stones. Making progress, slowly but surely. The owner of the adjacent farmland was working in the area, today, burning brush. About the time I finished mowing, he came with his backhoe and took out the remaining trees in the east fence and then smoothed up the ground. It sure is nice that the cemetery has such wonderful neighbors who have done so much to help, on the big things, that would be impossible, or else extremely costly to hire done. Robert

On the other hand, bringing the cemetery back to pristine condition would seem to improve the appearance of their land, also, though I don't know if farmers are as concerned with appearances as us city folks are.

    2. I am a child born out of wedlock and adopted by a loving couple. I have 2 family trees and enjoy working on both of them. Obviously I can only join hereditary societies on my bloodline but I stress to my children that they would not be the people they are without the influence of my parents. My birthfamily, on the other hand has welcomed me openly and i am also proud of their accomplishments. I have had too many problems with merging in Family Treemaker to even think about merging the two trees !Hah! But first, do the children know about their backgrounds and would it embarass them to have this information passed around the family? Please consider this privacy issue before you commit this information to your family tree. Thanks. Marti

    3. I have an individual who had a child out of wedlock, was pregnant with another child when she married a man (Non bio to either children) This man adopted both children. How dip I add the fist child? Do I have his birth given name on given section and add note that he was adopted by this man? and the second child was born after marriage so pretty sure its surname is same as the mans. Later on in the years they had more kids. one of these children changed their name as an adult. Do I put the changed name under the given name or do I put the birth given name and than under notes the new changed name? Thanks

    3. Jane, I didn't know anything about this but I knew a little about Bethuel Riggs. He was born in 1757 and died in 1835. Have some family group sheets on various parts of this remarkable family, and their connections, such as James Lee, and Wilson Thompson, also Baptist ministers. Wilson Thompson's parents marriage certificate was signed by Daniel Boone. James Lee was wounded in the Rev. War. A large number of Baptist ministers were in this family. Thanks for telling us about Macedonia being Webster. 2. Hi! I have a general question re cemetery records though I'm specifically looking for the records for this cemetery. According to their obituaries, my g-g-gparents, Marvin and Patience Sandidge Elwell, were buried in Elvaston cemetery in 1889 & 1931 respectively. However, when I visited this cemetery, I did not find their tombstones. I have never requested cemetery records before and am wondering where would I send the request? To the courthouse? To the local genealogy society? I've seen references to the sextons of various cemeteries but this cemetery was out in the middle of farmland and I did not see any caretaker facilities around. Thanks! Kara Townsend

Thanks! Kara Townsend ==== ILHANCOC Mailing List ====

    3. Robert- It seems to me that there could be a book in all this work. Especially with before and after pictures, and information on how to restore a cemetery. You've worked hard, and I'm sure it has cost a lot of money-you might recoup some of it. Nancy Welty Ross

    3. Robert, I second that. There should be more people out there like you who will restore stones & keep the grass cut. Some of our forgotten country cemeteries have probably become no more than a cow pasture. Keep up the good work. Bobbie
