    3. An obituary I have for Rice Harris says he was born August 11, 1844, at Big Neck, Adams County, Illinois. His father Solomon Harris came to Houston township, Adams co., Ill. in 1831. Rice Harris joined Bear Creek Regular (Primitive) Baptist church, of Adams Co., in 1860, and was ordained by that church in November 1863. In 1866 he moved to Kansas and joined Coal Creek church, near Iola, in Allen Co., Kansas. He served as pastor there and farmed. Rice Harris returned to Hancock Co., Illinois, in 1870, and joined Bethel church southeast of Basco in October 1871, and farmed and preached in this vicinity until 1920, when he moved to Missouri (probably to be near one of his children). Rice Harris died July 27, 1933, at the home at 2210 Hope Ave., Hannibal, Mo. One source I have says he was married five times; his obituary says his wife who survived was Martha. The obituary says he had seventeen children, another source I have says eighteen. I'm not a genealogist, and am not related, so don't have proof of these facts, but offer them in case they might help. I do have a photo of Rice Harris. Also have an obituary of his father, Solomon, and I think a photo of Solomon and his wife also exists. Several Harris family genealogists already have all that I can share with them, and they have given me some information which I have in a file here. I probably should have just referred you to them to begin with rather than giving this account myself, but since today would have been Rice Harris's birthday, thought I would reply anyway. I don't know the answer on the connection with the Childress family. 3. I didn't find them in Hancock County in 1850. I did find a family that could be them in Kansas in 1880. You may already have this information, but here's the 1880 entry just in case. 1880, Silver Creek, Cowley County, Kansas James Jackson, age 45, farmer, b. Ireland, parents b. 3. Don, please forgive me for the poorly worded explanation. I was trying to be brief. I bought a vinyl (not plastic) cone, which is made to be used as a "vase" for flowers at gravesites, at a local store, for $2.00. I inserted (but not glued) it into the hole in the original marble base-top for Clara's stone. It could be removed very easily by simply pulling it back out, without having any effect on the base marble. I intended to buy some artificial flowers to put in it but forgot. I did plant some mums a couple months ago, between Asa and Bertrice Kimbrough's stones, and they are still growing. Thought it would be nice to spruce the place up a little, especially since I know there are people who care. Robert

    3. This afternoon at Old Brick Cemetery, I leveled a few more bases, and started cleaning the secondary base of Margaret Printy (I discovered it has poetry on it); will mortar it in place later. Today I installed the new cement base for Daniel Hamilton, and mortared his stone into the base, so it is now done. Did some probing and witching, and searched for the fragment of Jane Mapes stone, and for footstones but found nothing yet. Did some landscaping work around a few bases, to try to prevent settling and keep them level. Have mortared the cement base of the John Munson stone, and started on doing the same to the Richard Cannon stone, to prevent water damage. Put a plastic flower cone on Clara Jane Mapes original base which I recently found underground. It was a gorgeous day to work today. I work inside most of the time so always enjoy the opportunity to work outside when the weather permits. Robert

    2. (Put a plastic flower cone on Clara Jane Mapes original base which I recently found underground. ) The preceding statement was part of your summary of about todays work. I wonder how that plastic flower cone got in there and who might have put it there. Plastics weren't generally available until about the middle part of the 20th century, were they? 3. I just learned that Northwestern dedicated their yearbook to an uncle of mine, Raymond Claude Fisher. Don't know if it was the Jr or Sr High yearbook. Also don't know what year. He died in 1981 but his obit suggests it occurred before then. He was an avid Northwestern sports fan and at his death requested that any memorials be sent to the booster clubs for each school. If anyone runs across a copy of the dedication I would be interested to hear what it says. Stephen
