    1. [ILHANCOC] HOUSE FAMILY in Hancock Co., Il.
    2. Hi! I am writing in regard to an e-mail I received sometime before Christmas on the George House Family. I was so busy that I apparently didn't even get it written down. If that person reads this perhaps they could e-mail me again. I will be more responsible this time. Thank you. J. Coleen Dochterman. jcdoc@aol.com.

I have Ebenezer as dying in Kansas in 1909 but believe he was buried in the Congregational cemetery in Warsaw. His wife Fannie died in Warsaw 25 Nov 1865 and I do not have a death date for his second wife Harriet. I did not find the Congregational Cemetery on the Hancock genweb page. Thanks.

Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.hancock/3353/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have found a discrepency on the genweb cemetery page and have tried to email the person that runs this page and her emails bounce. On the Oak GROVE cemetery is listed the name of ROSE,Wm b; June 6, 1845 d: March 9 1899 53 years 9 months 3 days. Oak VALLEY cemetery there is the name; ROSS, Wm S b; June 6, 1845 d: March 9 1899 same dates as the Wm ROSE. I am thinking this is the same person but I need to know for sure in which cemetery he is really buried. I believe WM S Ross is the son of Wm and Martha who are in the Oak GROVE cemetery, but in the Oak VALLEY listing there is a Emma C ROSS who I believe to be the wife of Wm. Is everyone as confused as I am? Thanks.

Historical Society. They are located in Carthage, IL and keep a very large file of these, and will do courthouse research as well. Rates are very reasonable. You might also contact the Carthage Public Library if you have a specific date. John Bierman Dayton, OH

Surnames: Friedrich, Fredericks Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.hancock/3352/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello I am looking for a needle in a haystack! Ludwig/Lewis/Louis Friedrich/Fredericks (or some other variation of the names) is reported to be buried in a cemetery in Nauvoo. Ludwig/Lewis was a Civil War Vet Company F, 82nd Infantry Regiment, Illinois We find him listed on the Vets list in the Rulo, NE area in 1890, but we cannot find him buried in that area. We believe he may have been Catholic. The family says that he was buried in Nauvoo, IL - we do not know any connections for this family in Illinois, but we don't know where else to look. Does anyone do lookups for Nauvoo cemeteries? Any hints or ideas are appreciated. Thanks in advance Stephanie

    2. Robert L Webb
    3. Greetings, friends, I haven't seen much activity on the Hancock county forum recently. Best wishes to you all, for a happy and prosperous new year in 2007. I just returned from checking the Old Brick cemetery, and found all well. There has been a lot of brush and tree clearing done within sight of the cemetery since I was there last, several weeks ago. A lot has happened since then - including three of us from Carthage, riding on a flatboat on the Ohio River between Old Shawneetown, Ill., and Elizabethtown, Ill., (and exploring Cave-in-Rock in between) on Dec. 13th. Best wishes, and happy new year, Robert

All I know about this family is a Sarah Ross married Moses True Dyer in Hancock County in 1847. I have that gut feeling that this is the missing daughter of Wm and Martha Ross. Sarah and Moses and a daughter Lauretta emigrated to Oregon in 1852 and settled in Douglas County. They had 5 children and when the youngest was 3 months old Sarah died. I have been to the cemetery where she is buried and found her tombstone. Later this evening I will type to you what I have on the guardianship extraction I found in Douglas County Oregon. Would you like me to put it on this message board or email you at home? I am so glad you answered my query. Lorelee

Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.hancock/3349.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The William Ross you have found on the 1850 & 1860 IL Hancock Co Census was my GGGgrandfather. Note that the 1840 census indicates he had 6 daughters and 3 sons. The 1850 census names 5 of those daughters, all 3 sons, plus 2 sons and 1 daughter born after 1840. This leaves one daughter missing and unnamed. Either she had died or she had married before the 1850 census. I have no current knowledge of the name of this daughter. However, The Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763-1900 which can be found at: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/GenealogyMWeb/MarriageSearchServlet shows the following marriages with brides having the maiden name of Ross in Hancock Co, IL during the 1840's. Alouisa Ross married Jeremiah Dee on 09/13/1849, Elizabeth Jane Ross married Samuel A. Smith on 11/8/1849, Legar Ross married John B. Young on 11/17/1844, and Sarah Ross married Moses T. Dyer on 12/28/1847. Any one of these could be the missing daughter of William Ross. I would say you have a 1 out of 4 chance that your Sarah is a daughter of William. Do you have more information from those guardianship papers you mentioned. You say the name of William Ross is on them, but in what context? Usually any party to legal action who lives out of state is better identified than just by name.

    3. It was privately published in the 1980s, probably mid to late 80s as I seem to remember getting it when I was in high school or slightly after. If no one comes up with a more precise date, I'll see if I have any notes in it when I get home.
