    3. I have - by phone, but this was in another county, Livingston to be exact. Got a very nice person. He offered the info if I wanted to come and see it. I chose at that time to delay it until when I was making that trip for someone in that family being followed. I'm also looking for early court records of this time that may have my great great grandfather in them. According to a Warsaw newspaper in 1876, he drowned in 5 feet of water, and his wife had been abused by him. 3. I just want to thank all of you for your suggestions on finding out more about my great great grandfather Isadore Eberwein. I do have a news clipping of his drowning, but found no obituary when I searched about 15 years ago. I was told at this time that there were no burial records found for him or wife Anna in the Catholic Cemetery records. I see no mention of them in the online records. I am following up with all your other suggestions, hoping that there might be something else found on him. He was only in the county for that short time. Thanks again! Kim

    3. Kim, the Illinois State Archives has microfilm of the early records for each county. Western University at Macomb is the archive for Hancock County. http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/GenealogyMWeb/iradsrch.html I checked for Coroner's Records but it appears that they started after the dates you specified in your email. You might take a look at other records that they have for Hancock County. If you send a research request, I don't think there is a charge for the search just for the copies. I have looked for early records at the courthouse and have had success with land, of course, and probates but many of the other older records are not available. The Historical Society is a great source for us. They have a card file for individuals mentioned in their various holdings. You should send your request to them and see if they can locate something there. You will need to send a letter to them. 2. Kim, FYI The St. Louis Genealogy Society has this book in their collection called: Eberwein Genealogy http://www.stlgs.org/readingRoomBooks.htm I agree with Sherry - go directly to the Hancock County court house and see if there are court records for that name. I found oodles of records for my LONGWELL family, ca: 1890, in the Knox County court house that I never knew existed. Full of very useful info. Good luck! 2. Kim, If I was you I would write the Historical Society in Carthage and see if they could help. They have old newspapers and will search to see if there is something on his drowning or an obit. The last time I wrote the Circuit Court for something they turned my letter over to a nice man from the Historical Society and he got the record for me. I know he will do court house research for people. The Circuit Clerk will not do researching any more. The Historical society charge a real small fee for their researching. They also have cemetery listing and I really believe they could help you. Roberta Summers
