I also have an excerpt from Siegfried Obit Scrapbook noting that Vitus died from cholera in September 1880. It seems that a Mr. Mack or Mark Baird was Frances attorney during the final hearing on the execution of this will. A man by the name of James Bolton appears several times throughout the documents. He appears to be a witness of Vitus last will and testament and an appraiser for the value of property. There are 2 more names listed as witnesses on the last will and testament. One of those individuals appears to be a man by the name of George Herbert and the other is C. J. the last name I cannot read. i am sure that there is a lot of wonderful info in these documents I just can not read most of it. Most of this stuff is hand written in the penmanship of the day. This is pretty fun stuff, I hope to one day finally discover when and where Vitus came to the U.S. The adventure continues!!!! Phillip

I would have to reiterate Mary's point regarding the book. It can be extremely helpful, but I would use it as a starting point--there are errors in some parts of it. I see there are a lot of references the past several days for people requesting information from Mrs. Bruennen's "Pioneers of the Prairie". It has been said before and I'm going to repeat--use that book as a beginning source but back it up with further research. There are a number of errors and assumptions throughout that volume--as in all histories, I assume! She did a lot of work putting that together but some of the information is in error. Also, I would be curious what "History of Hancock County" is being used and has an index. ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <ILHANCOC-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 31, 2007 10:41 AM Subject: Re: [ILHANCOC] Vestus Paul--- Francis Roast--Pioneers of the prarie > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Paul/Davidson > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.hancock/2103.3.1.4.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Thank you so very much!!!
