David BIGGS and family moved to Hancock/Schuyler County, IL ca. 1835 from New Madrid, MO. David & wife Millie with sons, William, James and Alfred were on the 1850 Census for Hancock County. David is missing on the 1860 but he was 70 on 1850 and could have died between 1850 and 1860. I need help in tracing this family to present. Any information will be appreciated. I would love to hear from descendants. -- Jim Golden -- Tifton, GA -- The Friendly City ============================================================ GOLDENGOLDINGOLDINGGOULDENGOULDINGOULDINGGOLDENGOLD Oooo oooO ( ) ( ) ) / \ ( ( _ / \ _ ) Footsteps in the Sands of Time! Hi All, My daughter is writing this for me so please excuse the spelling. I have developed an infection in both my eyes and have not done anything on the web site for a couple of weeks. my vision is blurry and can't see real well with the medicine the eye Doctor gave me. I have gotten some email from some people with more death information and will get to it assoon as I can. I am so sorry for the inconvienince. I also am gettine calcium build up on my optical nerves. He said it could be related to my disease or it could even be related to the brain injury I got from the recent accident. I have to have another test done next Wednesday. I don't know what will happen with that, or what can be done, if anything. I hope you will all bare with me and I will get back to the web site as soon as I possibly can. Thank you all so much. Shawnnee
Hi Shawnnee, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a speedy recovery. Now is a bad time of year for Mothers to be ill. Your daughter did a good job. Roberta.
I know that this is not directly related to either Hancock County or Perry County but this is your chance to bring a little cheer to someone stationed overseas in Bosnia. I sent out three cards tonight and would have sent more had I had the stamps. If you have any spare Christmas cards please consider sending one or two out to help brighten the holidays for those who will not be home for Christmas. I'm probably going to get yelled at by the "junk mail" folks for this one, and it's not directly related to genealogy OR Illinois, but IS important to me and a lot of other folks. My uncle, Mike Titus, is stationed in Bosnia and won't be home for the holidays. Yes folks, we still have US Military Personnel in Bosnia. I've added a page on one of my websites with information on how you might help make the holiday brighter for the folks who are stationed at Comanche Base in Bosnia. I would really appreciate it if everyone could take a 10 minute break from their family genealogy and go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~iamusca2/bosnia.htm Take your pen, computer or crayola and a spare holiday card and address it NOW and mail it off. You can send it directly to my Uncle (if you love me so much--grin) or to ANY US MILITARY PERSONNEL at the address shown on the web page. Boxes of nummies and goodies are allowed too (and from the looks of some of the big dudes in the picture I got from Uncle Mike, probably would be devoured quickly!) Postage for this address is the same as any standard in - country mailing. PLEASE don't be mad at me for posting this to the list--genealogy is FAMILY... Thanking in advance any of you who take 10 minutes to brighten these folks holiday season!! __________________________________________ NetZero - Defenders of the Free World Get your FREE Internet Access and Email at http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html
Hello, Bgn abt 1850, I know that I have had dozens of SLUSHER relatives live, marry and die in Hancock Co, Illinois. Have been only able to locate burial places for 3 (in Laharpe Cemetery). If you have a burial list or index for a Hancock Co, IL, cemetery, sure would appeiciate a "look-see" for my SLUSHER clan. Regards and many many thanks and the best to you and yours over the Holidays, Grandpa Otis (in Florida)
Has anyone run across a Henry b. 1810 in NY and Parmelia Miles Conn b. same time period in NY. They are in the 1850 Hancock County, Ill. census. Henry is listed as a trader. He left for the gold mines (don't know where) and that is where he died. His son Spencer b. 1837 in Chautauqua County, NY was 12 when his father died. They may have spent some time in Dekalb County and or Lee County. In 1866 they ended up in Worth County, MO. I am looking for anyone living at this time that may be related to them. Any other Conn researchers that have a line in Ill. and NY? Anyone have any info on this family? Thanks. Chancelee

I'm looking at a long shot here. Trying to rule out; more than prove anything. Does anyone have any information on a Thomas STONEKING and a Mattie J. FIELDING married in Hancock Co., IL? I have a Jesse S. FIELDING and Atlanta HAGGARD as her parents, and a possible Sarah (?) STONEKING listed in the 1850 IL Census (age 30) with a David (6), Thomas (4), and Martha (3) in McDonough Co., as his. Ancestry.com show's that Mattie was born in Plymouth, Hancock Co., IL and IL, and had siblings Emma and F. Maude. The IL Marriage Search show they were married in McDonough Co., 5 Aug 1891. Also another wrinkle is there is another(same) Thomas STONEKING listed in the IL Marriage Search that married a Sarah Jane DUNBAR in Hancock Co., IL 18 Aug 1879. This man was married at least six times and wandered from Adair & Scotland Co., MO to McDonough & Schuyler Co., IL and maybe up into IA as one of his wives was from IA according to the listing for my G-Grandmother in the 1880 as to where her parents came from. Would just like to rule these out if possible. They just keep coming up. Thanks for any help you can provide!! I have a JAMES DUNN born about 1780. He received a land patent in Madison Co., IL for service in the War of 1812. James died before 12 Oct 1818 in Madison Co. His wife (possibly a REYNOLDS) also died around the same time. James Gray, who had come from Christian Co., KY was the administrator of the estate, but to date I cannot find that he has any connection with this Dunn family. I believe James Dunn and his wife left these children: 1.) Elizabeth Dunn b. 1817 in OH. As an infant she was taken in by James Nutter PIPER and his wife, Catherine VINYARD. This family was paid from the Dunn estate to care for Elizabeth for several years; at which point James Piper died. Elizabeth later married Amos HART and lived in Schuyler Co., IL and Adams Co. (I have their descendants). 2.) Reynolds Dunn, b. 1814 in NJ. After his parents died he may have lived with James GRAY and/or Joseph Bartlett TEAS (1830 census in Schuyler Co., IL). Reynolds married Mary Ann BATES in 1849 and died in 1850, leaving one child, Martha Dunn, who later married John Edward TOMLINSON and lived in Gallatin, Daviess Co., MO. 3.) Alexander Dunn b. abt. 1810-1812. In 1840 he was the head of a household in McDonough Co., IL. I believe he died about 1842 and his family "disappears." However, I think he had a son, Alexander Dunn Jr., living with Hardy McCormack in the 1850 census in Jefferson Co., MO. 4.) Michael Dunn b. bet 1805-1810. He was schooled for a while in 1818 by Joseph Bartlett TEAS, according to the estate papers. 5.) James E.? Dunn b. abt 1800. On 9 Mar 1819 he married Zilpha THOMAS. This might be the same person shown in the 1840 Census in Hancock Co.: 1840 Census, Hancock Co., IL M704 #60, p. 189 Jas E. Hi, Need help to find my gggrandfather, James Johnston. I know he lived in or near Hancock county in 1841-1847. I have been unable to find any record of a marriage, land ownership (because I don't have enough info to know which one he is) birth of his children, or death. He married JANE BARBOUR sometime after 1841, because she came from Scotland that year, and before 1845 because that is when his first son was born. PETER BARBOUR JOHNSTON born 1845, and WILLIAM EDWARD JOHNSTON born 1847 (and perhaps a twin). There was perhaps a little girl also, LUCRETIA JANE, born 1849 who apparently died. Jane was a Mormon, whether James was or not, I don't know. Later records indicate that he was either from Montreal, Canada, or Scotland. I have no names of parents or siblings for James. Hoping someone can help. Elaine Johnston Daniels Hailey, Idaho ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Immediately on the OTHER side of THOMPSON cemetery (On the south side of the cemetery opposite of where Wm SNYDER's land is) is your *other surname you are looking for : Jas. DEWITT. I don't see a dwelling here however. Looks like all large trees (the woods are still there and a stream runs thru it). His home is probably on a sheet the continues to the east, which I do not have a copy of. The SCHUYLER county home page has addresses of some very helpful people you might write to find more info. Good Luck! Valerie His land is right between William C. Thompson's land and Saml. S. THompson's land.
