Just found the following on Ancestry.com daily newsletter Marian LDS MILITARY RECORDS, 1840-1847 Formed shortly after the founding of Nauvoo, Illinois, the Nauvoo Legion was a part of the Illinois Militia even though all its members were Latter-day Saints. This database is a listing of men who served in the legion between 1840 and 1844. It also contains a listing of men mustered in July 1846 into what was called the Mormon Battalion. Each entry contains the soldier's name, rank and commission date. Containing the names of nearly 1,000 men, it can be a helpful source of information for researchers of early Mormon ancestors. Bibliography: Platt, Lyman. "Early LDS Military Records." [Database online] Orem, UT: Ancestry, Inc., 1999. To search this database, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/4233.htm

My lines intertwined with DYE and POPE families in both Hancock and McDonough Counties. Time frame 1840's and on.
Judy, I don't know if you had a chance to visit the restored village of Nauvoo, in Hancock county. We spent three days there as a family, and I would have loved to have stayed longer. You are right, the countryside in Hancock County is so pretty... Well cared for homes and farms. I also enjoyed the historical aspects. My husband and our children and I were enthralled with our visits to the restored homes and businesses in Nauvoo. Even the kids enjoyed history, as they listened to the costumed tour guides in the various places we visited! It was almost like taking a trip back in time to the 1840's. We found Nauvoo to be a place of refuge from the world; a quiet, peaceful village on the banks of the beautiful Mississippi River.
