I don't know who the gentleman is typing in all the good reports, to this list, but since I have been doing a lot of that myself on another rootsweb line, I know the effort and fortitude it takes, especially in the eye of criticism all the time, so I just wanted to thank Mr. Bryant for doing what he is doing and trying to help so many other people. You know what they say, usually the one who hollers the loudest, is the one who doesn't do anything, except take. Thank you sir, for your time, your labor, and your love of your fellow mankind. I do not know you, have no relations to your Groves, but I appreciate what you are doing for OTHERS...... On the other hand to the person so frustrated, we do understand your frustrations also, and say, "have a little patience," your time will come. I have typed and typed and put out a lot of information to others without receiving a word from them as to what I am pursuing, but have found as I help others, God in His wisdom always brings to me, in one source or another and Genealogy has been a real blessing to me since 1987 as I have found tons of my father's relatives over the past two years because of the Internet and diligence. I never knew my father but to find and know his people has been a special blessing to me. Frustrated, there have been times when I would work and work and just hit a brick wall, and put my books back up on the shelf and take a vacation from it, then perhaps one day here comes a letter in the mail or email with a new clue and I'm off and running again. It doesn't come easy, it is worth your effort to search and it is much more fun when you find your own clues, so today make up your mind to start with the court houses, the libraries, the cemeteries yourself and you will be amazed what you find, not to mention this INTERNET........Just putting in my two cents, since I have found myself in the same position of this gentlemen who you are so upset with. Perhaps he wasn't through, perhaps he would have gotten to your family, perhaps now we may never know? Good luck in your search. bem

I've gotten some leads, and some non-replies - but I will never yell at or berate a researcher simply because they won't stick out their necks for me. If this is allowed to go on, we will no doubt have people demanding that we come and fill out their personal family tree books in person. Mr Bryant is posting obituaries both onto this list and to the rootsweb Hancock county page. He is not being paid. More importantly, he is not obligated, in any way, shape or form, to research other people's families. He posted the GROVE names he is interested in - he should not have to go beyond that. In reality, we have a very unselfish man who is listing, not only the entire contents of dozens of news clippings onto our email listing, (These have to be typed up, by the way) but also has created two free webpages for the entire world to scan thru as well. Does he HAVE to? Or simply because he has found them, should we INSIST that he type each word of them on here so we can print them out with one click of a button so we can enjoy them? Does doing this work help Mr. Bryant more than it will help someone else? I think not. His treasures are posted for the World to see. To scream at him because he won't take his own time to seek out information about our own personal family from his files is rude and competely selfish. In the Kitten's opinion, I think he has performed enough FREE research on this list alone, to last another 2 generations. Have we taken the time to visit his websites? Massive work done there with many helpful links. I have enjoyed reading these news clippings and have discovered some clues regarding migrations. Hetty. ----------------------- The Carthage Republican Carthage, Illinois Wednesday April 9, 1919 Page 1 Column 5 Joetta. We have been given the following obituary of a former lady of this vicinity and one who was our very near neighbor for many years. Death has made its visit and has taken for its victim Mrs. Martha Buttler. Martha Young was born December 10, 1844, in Pilot Grove township, Hancock County, Illinois, and departed this life at her home in Sciota, Illinois, April 4, 1919, age 70 years, 4 months, and 24 days. She was united in marriage to John Buttler August 14, l864. To this union there were born ten children. Two died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Maria Munson, died February 18, 1899. The other seven children who mourn the loss of a dear mother are: Mrs. Margaret Patterson of Ellsberry, Mo.; Mrs. Emma Hixon, of Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. Rebecca Dillard of Ewing, Mo.; Mrs. Mary Moss of Sciota, Ill.; Frank of Burnside, Ill.; William and James at home. There are also 23 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, the aged husband, four sisters, one brother, many other relatives and a host of friends whose hearts are saddened because of her passing away. She gave her heart to God and united with the church of Christ at Adrian, Ill. April 13, 1890, and was ever faithful to the church of her choice. She was a kind and devoted wife, a tender and loving mother, a good friend and neighbor to all. During her last illness she had suffered greatly but was never heard to complain, being so patient at all times. Having been in poor health for several years but not serious until the last four weeks, which time she has been bedfast, but kept up her courage to the last. She expressed her great faith in the Savior and put her trust in Him, believing He whom she had served all the past years would take her home to dwell with her loved ones who had gone on before and who were waiting to greet her on the other shore. She will be sadly missed by the aged husband and in the home of the daughter where she has spent the past winter. These children and husband have done every thing that love and care and tenderness could do to make mother's last days here on earth bright and happy and they have that to comfort them in their great grief. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Burnside Sunday April 6, 1919, at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev. George P. Lambert of Ferris. Burnside choir furnishing the music with the exception of a solo "The Vacant Chair" which was rendered in a beautiful manner by Mr. Hugh Alton. Burial at McKay cemetery. Those from this vicinity who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Lem Parker and Mrs. Halley Parker. ----------------------- note: the birth date, death date, and age numbers above just don't add up, so one or more of the above numbers is wrong. ----------------------- The Carthage Republican Carthage, Illinois Wednesday April 16, 1919 Page 7 Column 4 BURNSIDE. The funeral of Mrs. J. H. Butler was held at the M. E. Church here Sunday afternoon in charge of Elder George Lambert of the Rock Creek L. D. S. of which church the deceased was a member. The body was laid to rest in McKay cemetery. Mrs. Butler has been a resident of this vicinity practically all her life and bore an enviable reputation for kindness and good cheer. Although death had been expected for some weeks, yet that failed to remove the sting from the sad parting. A son, Frank But1er, and members of his family were so bad with the flu that they were unable to attend the funeral. Miss Marcia, I do thank you for the post to the list!!! And even though it was not meant for me really, I went into that site and found where my great grandfather owned land, etc. Without your post, I would still be wondering about that. I have not found his internment site, but know when he died and am researching the web for the cemetary . The Hancock page didn't have anything on him and was about to give up, but then tonight I found his land in JODAVIESS County. We had been told he died in Warsaw, which is Hancock Co.. I have found a worldwide cemetary listing and am researching there. Again Thank you.
