    1. [ILHANCOC] For Emerson Schenck, Re 1904 Marriage License
    2. Most of the marriage licenses I've ordered from IRAD were issued prior to 1900 and whether or not state law changed after the turn of the century I don't know. I can tell you that the following is true for the licenses I've ordered. Illinois marriage license applications and certificates included the bride's and groom's names, the witnesses' names, the name of the person who performed the marriage and the name of the County Clerk. Most times at least one of these forms also bears the signatures of the above individuals. However, the Board of Health document which became an Illinois State requirement in 1877 and which accompanied the license and application, included the parents' names (the mothers' maiden names), as well as other helpful information such as the couple's places of birth, their ages as of their next birthdays, the groom's occupation, the location of their current residences and the number of the marriage (e.g., the groom's first marriage). I've been told that after this form became a requirement, it took a while before all the County Clerks began to religiously make sure it was prepared for each marrying couple. Marcia Farina

    3. Posted on: Hancock Co. Il Obituaries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/HancockObits/412 Surname: Boston, Kimbrough, Phillips, Wilson, Zumwalt ------------------------- MIDDLE CREEK. Death of Luke Wilson. Surrounded by those he loved, just at the close of a beautiful spring day, slowly the gates of paradise opened its pearly portals and another soul was welcomed into the celestial city. Seventy-seven years, five months and twelve days ago on Nov. 22, 1843, in the state of Virginia to Joshua and Eunice Wilson a tiny babe was born. In due time this wee bit of humanity was named Luke. It was there he spent childhood’s happy hours and with his parents came to this state in October, 1846, which place has since been his home. It was here he grew to young manhood. On March 25, 1868 he was united in marriage to Miss Dicy Phillips. To this union four children were born, Ollie, Jennie, Ella and one son, Elmer who passed away a number of years ago. He was of a quiet disposition, a lover of his own fireside. For a number of years he made sorghum molasses and he was so perfect in his art that every gallon he made was so near perfection it could not be excelled. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson celebrated their golden wedding on March 25, 1919, which was a red letter day in their lives, when they were surrounded by a host of relatives and friends, and since that time he has been in feeble health until May 3, 1920, he passed to the great beyond, leaving to mourn for him, his dear companion and three loving daughters, Mrs. Frank L. Kimbrough, Mrs. David R. Kimbrough and Mrs. Sylvester Boston, who all live within this county, and two grandchildren, who were very dear to him, and one sister, Mrs. Jackson Zumwalt of Tulare City, Calif.; and a number of relatives and friends. On Wednesday, May 5, at 2 p. m., Elder L. E. Frazee from Bentley conducted the funeral services at the residence. There amid a profusion of beautiful floral offerings he reposed and friends passed in and out, paying their last respect to this dear husband and kind father, after which the remains were conveyed to the Holland cemetery and tenderly laid to rest in the family lot. His funeral and interment was largely attended. All hearts go out in sympathy to this bereaved family. Twice the family chain has been broken never to be united again in this life and how dreary would our lives be were it not for the promise that we shall meet our loved ones again. Some day all these sad trials and partings will be over, we in submission say: "Thy will be done." / . . The golden gates were opened wide;/ . . A gentle voice said "Come,"/ . . And angels from the other side/ . . Welcomed our loved one home. Il Obituaries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/HancockObits/411 Surname: Carle, Green, Munson, Smith, Ward ------------------------- George Washington Carle, Sr., was born in Huntington county, Pennsylvania, March 11th, 1830. At the age of 17 years he came to Hancock county, Illinois, where he resided until his death, which occurred Aug. 21st, 1911, being at the time of his death, 81 years, 5 months and 10 days old. In the year of 1850, he was united in marriage to Hester Ward and to this union were born three children. Two boys, Alonzo and William, have preceded him to the better land. One daughter, Mrs. Maggie Green, is still living at Peoria, Ill. He was united in marriage to Rebecca A. Munson in the year of 1857. To this union were born seven children, Abigail, dying in infancy, and Fernndo, at the age of 19 years. The living are: Jerry F., George W., Mrs. S. A. Smith, Darius H. and Jerome Ralph and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, who are left to mourn the loss of a loving and dutiful father and grandfather. He united with the Oak Grove Christian church a number of years ago and has been a faithful and consistent member ever since. He was one among the early settlers of this community, of which children and grandchildren are proud to own, but his spirit has gone to be with the wife and mother, who preceded him several years before and both are resting in the arms of the dear Saviour, waiting and watching for the loved ones here at home, which will be but a short journey to the tomb. / . . ’Tis hard to break the tender cord./ . . . . Where love has bound the heart./ . . ’Tis hard, so hard, to speak the word/ . . . . We must forever part. / . . Dearest loved one, we must lay thee/ . . . . In the peaceful grave’s embrace./ . . But thy memory will be cherished/ . . . . Till we see thy heavenly face. Card of Thanks. Geo. They resided in Plymouth, IL in Hancock county at sometime during their married life. They are buried in Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy,IL but Adams county has no death or marriage records for them. I believe they were married after 1912 as Katie is listed as Kate Meyer on her parents (Conrad & Mary Gross Meyer) death certificates. They may have been married in Hancock County after 1912. In 1936 I have a copy of a letter from Katie to her cousin and they were living in Durham,MO. Clyde Cason died in 1937 and Katie Meyer Cason died in 1950. I am not sure when either of them was born but most likely in 1870's. Are there any Cason or Meyer researchers out there that might see a connection? Thanks Ruth

Posted on: Hancock County, Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Hancock/1216 Surname: Baxter, Mathews, Matthews ------------------------- I'm looking for advice on several pieces of information related to James H. MATHEWS. I'm searching for a marriage record for James H. MATHEWS and Hannah Drury Welbourne BAXTER. The marriage would have taken place about 1854. Can anyone recommend how I would go about locating this record since it is more recent than the indexes I have seen? James and Hannah had two daughters born about 1855 - maybe twins - one Alice, the other perhaps Emeline. Is there an index of births in Hancock County for this time period? Lastly, trying to find this family in the 1860 census for Hancock county Illinois and Hannah's parents, William and Alice BAXTER. The CD indexes I've seen don't have them but I'm pretty sure they must be there. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, Alice Benson Lakeside, CA

    2. Hi, My name is Margaret Hamilton and I am researching the names Spangler and Miller from Carthage & Fountain Green area. I have found out that a 4th great grandfather of mine is buried in BETHEL CEMETERY in Bear Creek Township, Hancock Co., Illinois. A few years ago a very kind gentleman went by the cemetery and told me there is a headstone for MOSES MILLER but it is laying on the ground. I have not been able to get there due to moving and surgeries and just everyday life plus living 6 hours away. I was wondering if anyone reading this would live close to that cemetery and be will to take a picture of the headstone (if still there) and send to me. I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO SEND MONEY FOR FILM PLUS PAY FOR THE PERSONS TIME. If anyone is interested please e mail me at Multon4240@aol.com Thanks for your time, Margaret
