    3. Posted on: Hancock County, Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Hancock/1284 Surname: NELTNER, SCHILLING, GUMBEL ------------------------- My grandmother, Millie SCHILLING GUMBEL, lived in Warsaw, Hancock County as a girl, and I have a photo of a neighbor, Mary NELTNER. It was taken by Gilhousen in Warsaw probably before 1890. I believe I found the NELTNER family on a census and Mary was older than Millie, who was born in 1864. I hope someone links to the NELTNER family and will give the photo a home. I can send a scanned image by E-mail.

    1. [ILHANCOC] Conn burials at Majorville Cemetery, Hancock Co.
    2. Marcia Farina
    3. Posted on: Hancock County, Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Hancock/1281 Surname: ------------------------- There are several Conns buried in Majorville Cemetery. I have them listed but don't have their tombstones pictured yet. Orpha B. Bullock is also buried there; she was the daughter of Caroline Conn and James Bullock. I have placed on her page the obituaries of Caroline and James. These obits include information which may aid your search. Also, from Scofield History of Hancock County, 1921, page 1170: Conn, George V., veterinary surgeon, who is engaged in the active practice of his calling at La Harpe, is one of the leading men of his profession in Hancock county. He was born at Mediapolis, Des Moines County, Iowa, February 14, 1888, on of the nine children of Marlow M. and Mary E. (Hamilton) Conn. Marlow M. Conn was born in New York state, but he later moved to Iowa, and was a farmer. The mother was born in Indiana. George V. Conn attended the common and the high school of his native place, and then entered the McKinley Veterinary College, from which he was graduated in 1911. Immediately thereafter he entered upon the practice of his profession at La Harpe, where he has since continued, and has been very successful in his work. Dr. Conn was married to Miss Clare R. Claycomb, a daughter of Harry E. Claycomb, and they have one child, Cathryn B., who was born June 6, 1914. The Doctor and his family belong to the Methodist Episcopal Church. In politics he is a Republican. Upright and carefully trained, Dr. Conn not only is an excellent veterinary, but he is also a good citizen and man of sterling principles. I am not directly researching the Conn family and have no additional information. Link: Deep Roots in Hancock County URL: <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~majorville>

    1. [ILHANCOC] Searching for WILSEY ancestors ...
    2. I recently came across the address of a jdbolton@delnet.com while searching for my family surname on the Hancock County Illinois ILGenWeb Project Page and sent the e-mail below to that address. Unfortunately, the mail was returned because there was a problem with its delivery. I received the following message as the reason ... ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- <jdbolton@delnet.com> 550 <jdbolton@delnet.com>... User unknown If <jdbolton@delnet.com> is reading this list or anyone might have an idea how I could contact this person, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks! : ) - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------ Hello ... I came across your name and e-mail address while searching through the "Hancock County Illinois ILGenWeb Project" for my family surname of WILSEY. I've been able to trace most of my direct WILSEY ancestors to Clark County, Missouri, and Lee County, Iowa. While I have always known that my WILSEYs migrated through Illinois, and always suspected that they had some roots there, it wasn't until recently that I was able to pin down the Illinois locale to Hancock County. I would be interested in any information you would care to share about your line of WILSEYs and would be happy to exchange information about my line with you. I believe my g-grandmother, Emma Josephine PARSONS, was born in Hancock County, Illinois, circa 1863. The PARSONS' apparently moved to Clark County, Missouri from Illinois where Emma married my g-grandfather, P.I. WILSEY, in 1882 ... the WILSEY family having migrated westward from Pennsylvania between the years of 1836 (or 1846, depending on the history book) and settling in Clark County, Missouri in 1848. My research, to date, indicates that the majority of my WILSEY line and its collaterals made Clark County their residence, while others settled in Lee County, Iowa (a few going back and forth during parts of their lives), and Hancock County, Illinois ... some eventually migrating even further west to California and, possibly, the states of Wyoming and Washington. Izzy1865@aol.com Searching for: WILSEY ... WAPLES ... PARSONS ... HARSCH ... DART ... ARNOLD in Clark, Scotland, Knox & Lewis Counties, MO Lee County, IA and Hancock County, IL I'd rather be looking for dead people than have them looking for me!

Posted on: Hancock County, Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Hancock/1274 Surname: WILSEY, WAPLES, PARSONS, HARSCH, DART, ARNOLD, MEISTER ------------------------- I am trying to confirm that my g-grandmother, Emma Josephine PARSONS, was, in fact, born in Hancock County, Illinois. My research, to date, indicates that she was born circa 1863, probably in Hancock County. She was the second daughter of John PARSONS [b. between 1833 & 1834 in Ohio] and Miss Angeline HARSCH [b. between 1843 & 1844, also in Ohio]. Emma married my g-grandfather, P.I. WILSEY of Clark County, Missouri, on 10 Sep 1882, in Clark County, her parents having migrated to and settled there with their other four children circa 1877. A sixth child, and fifth daughter, was born to John and Angeline PARSONS after they settled in Missouri. If you are able to help with the confirmation of Hancock County, Illinois as Emma's place of birth, I'd like very much to hear from you. If any of the people posted in this message are your ancestors, I would also like very much to exchange further information with you.

My research indicates that Granderson H. WILSEY, a g-grand uncle, married Miss Elizabeth MEISTER and there was at least one child, Guymon, as a result of this union. Granderson was born 21 Apr 1871; died 08 Jun 1954 and is buried in Sand Cemetery in Clark County, Missouri ... this information according to the publication "Clark County Cemetery Inscriptions." I would like to verify this information. If you can be of assistance, I would very much like to hear from you. If you are a WILSEY or MEISTER descendent, I would also be happy to exchange further information.

    1. [ILHANCOC] For Dave Hardesty and R. Layton
    2. For Dave Hardesty: Take a look at Ron Bryant's excellent website (take off the < and >) and you'll find Charles Gaylord Boston, wife Beulah, etc. If you do a search for the Boston surname on the Hancock County Obits page, you'll find other related Boston obituaries that Ron has already posted there. <http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=bryant> FYI, the Obituary pages are reserved for recording actual obituaries. Post queries on the Hancock County Query Board and not the Obituary pages. I imagine the Site Admin. will remove your recent inquiry. For R. Layton, the main Hancock County website is at (remove the < and >): <http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilhancoc/> Scroll down to near the bottom of this page and you'll see links for both the Query Board and the Obits pages. And if you're looking for Hancock County kin, I highly recommend Ron Bryant's site as a good place to start searching. Marcia Farina

Posted on: Hancock County, Il Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Il/Hancock/1270 Surname: ------------------------- I have several unidentified photos, and I’m hoping someone out there might be able to help me identify them. They are of the Kunz family, and two were taken in Carthage, Hancock, Illinois by Crit. Sympson Photo Studio. I suspect they were taken between 1860 and 1900. The only identified photo is of Charles Kunz as a boy. Charles’ father was Joseph Kunz, and his Mother was Mary Magdalene Weber (b. 1824 in France, d. 3 May 1902 in Elvaston, Hancock, Illinois.) Their other children (Charles’ siblings) were: John, Julia A., Josephine, Michael, Amile, George, Joseph, Katherine, and Nicholas. I am descended from John, who was born in 1851 in Lyons, New York, married in 1879 in Carthage, Hancock, Illinois, and died in1931 in Wilbur, Lincoln, Washington. At the time of his death in 1931 his brother Amile was living in California, his brother George was in Creston, Washington, his brother Joseph was in Wilbur, Washinton, and his brother Charles (the one in the photo) was still in Illinois. I have posted these photos to the web and encourage anyone who might be able to identify them to take look. To view the photos go to “www.gatherround.com” From there click on the button to view albums. The username “gcrimmins@yahoo.com” and the password “kunz” will give you access to the photos. 1. [ILHANCOC] Joyce Lawton Thompson
    2. Hi All, Would anyone from the Quincy Genealogical Society know how I can get in touch with Joyce Lawton Thompson in Florida? I understand Joyce and Loron Thompson are divorced and she has remarried and moved to Florida. I do not have her new name nor do I know where in Florida she moved. Since she was a active member of the Genealogical Society in Quincy I thought someone might have her address. I know Joyce did a lot of research in Hancock County too so maybe someone from Hancock County knows her. I am not sure but it seems like she was from Hancock County. If anyone corresponds with her could you e-mail me so I can have you send her my address? I have moved since I last heard from her. Thanks. Roberta Summers.
