My husbands grandfather migrated from Hancock County, IL in the late 1870s to Gentry County, MO near the Nodaway County line. I too wonder what was behind the move (nearly due west of Hancock Co.). Anyone have any information? I am new to this list - and I am wondering if anyone in Hancock County can provide information on the Glynn family? John Glynn [email protected]
Coleen.....Thanks for responding to my request for data on the picture. I have had trouble staying online of late and all of my message did not make it to the website!! Do you think that one of these two women might be a daughter of Clytus Dana Smith? The first names are Iva and Lillian. It looks to me like the handwriting on the back of the picture was Grandma White's. So I was thinking that they might be a relation to the White or Kimbrough families. Looking forward to hearing from you. Elva
Saw your query about the pictures in the Hancock Co. Digest. I am not sure how much help this might be but sometimes any clue is helpful. Sylvester Allen Smith m. lst to Ardella Ann Mosley (dau. of Simeon Mosley and Sarah Kurry) and then married 2nd to Caroline "Carrie" L. Carle (dau. of George W. Carle and Rebecca Munson. One son of the second marriage, Clytus Dana Smith b. 11 Sept. 1886 in Hancock Co., Il. lived in Whitefish, Montana. He d. Dec. 1973 in Spokane, Washington. I am sure I have other info. on him but at this moment I can not put my hands on it. Hope this will help somewhat.

I have two pictures that I can't identify. The first is of two women sitting in the doorway of a shack. On the back my grandmother, Blanche White, has written these names; (slim one) Mrs. Iva Knight and Mrs. Lillian Bredwick. Whitefish, Montana. Can anyone tell me what these womens maiden names were? The picture appears to be between 1910 to 1930. The other was probaby taken in the late 1800's or early 1900's. It is a posed picture of young lady probably in her late teens early 20's. Long time no hear. My computer crashed last July and am now just getting back on line. I wrote a biography for the new book the Historical Society printed this year. For the Bloyds and Spoonemores. I found out from the court house that Wm. Henry Spoonemore didn't die from a snake bite. I think it was TB or influzena, but will have to check again to confirm. And another interesting tidbit that I would like to check out is the name Spoonemore is a common name in the Potawamie (spelling) native americans that once roamed western Illinois and eastern Iowa. I helped with a powwow and ran across it while doing some research. I know that you had gotten info. from a gentlemen that we were German, but it stirred up an interest. In July I made it to the cemetery that Wm. and Martha are suppose to buried. I don't think I found their stone but a lot of other relatives there. I belive Martha was buried next to Tom Shepherd. I also got to the cemetery where John Bloyd Sr. was buried. There was a lot of trees so there wasn't much overgrowth. We found Lipsie, the Revoluntary War veteran's tombstone. John was suppose to buried close to him. We found a couple field stones that probably were used to mark graves. The gentleman that owns the property told us that when he was a kid there were a lot more stones. This is on a hill and wonder how many graves have washed away with erosion. There was the iron fenced area that the Rudells are buried with nice granite stones. There's another area that has other graves and are marked with a three growing at the head of the graves. I think there were 3 trees. Debbie took digital pics and gave me copies. We are planning on a spring clean up at the grave and maybe start taking a collection at family reuinons to have one stone made with the names of those that thought to be buried there. I haven't worked on any genealogy since my computer crashed. Keep in touch Paula in Illinois
Here is one: http://www.deadfred.com/ As an aside, my mother had teddy bears made from the bedspread of my grandmother Neill (a Hancock County, IL native). There are a few pictures of the bears on my website at: http://www.rootdig.com/bears/ And of course, I'm still looking for information on Ira and Ellen Sargent who were living in Warsaw, Hancock, IL in 1880. I was hoping the 1870 everyname census index at Ancestry would help, but so far no luck ;-(.
