Is there anyone on the list who knows why AOL is bouncing the Hancock Co, list email? Everyone on the list that has AOL did not get my last email. Shawnnee
Hi All, I just finished the Bethlehem Church of Christ Cemetery in Walker Township. The index is also updated. If any of you have any family or friends buried in that cemetery or any more information on the burials please let me know. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilhancoc/bethlehem_church.html Shawnnee
Hi!!Shawnnee: From Beverly Whitehead You assisted me in finding My C.W. Browning first name Christopher. Have been able to locate his Father Absolom b. VA. and Mother Nancy Davis Browning b. 1805 VA> and a record of her family showing that she died in Hancock Co.IL> Aft 1860. I am assuming that both Absolom and Nancy Browning are buried there together. He was a Revolutionary War Soldier. I have all of their children born in Adair, KY.1820 through 1838 They did have one child named Absolom S. Browning b. 1832 KY. I will assume that they came to Hancock Co.,IL. sometime aft. the birth of the last child in KY. 1838. My Christopher C>W> was married there in 1845 ( source Susan T. Brownings Obit.) I will have his (Absolom's Sr.) pension records and other reords I have ordered.. and hope they will tell where he is buried. I have no notes in the information I have found to date as to where he is buried..just the one entry for Nancy Davis Browning. I will send any info on name of Cemetery I find to you .. Thanks again for all your help. You really opened the door to this family and I will be forever thankful for your knowledge. Thanks to all who answered my query about the Buckeye Cemetery. I just added a few more names and dates to the Crenshaw Cemetery in Rockey Run Township. I know there were many more names in that Cemetery because that is my family cemetery but over the years most of the stones have disappeared, been vandalized, weathered and distroyed. The weeds have grown up and it has been forgotten. Hopefully the relatives will never be forgotten as long as our genealogy does not go to waste. Shawnnee
See Mary, I forgot to give you the URL. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilhancoc/cemetery.html LOL Shawnnee
Ok, the Walker index is complete for the Buckeye Cemetery Shawnnee
Shawnee, My 2nd great grandmother, Martha Fitton (Finton?) HARRISON, died on 20 Feb 1856 and was one of the early burials in Buckeye although she is not listed. She immigrated to Hancock Co. from England in 1843 with her husband John Harrison (1796-1864) and her children, several of whom are buried in Buckeye. The sons buried at Buckeye are John (1820-1884), James (1822-1883), William (1824-1901) and Edward "Ned" (1827-1910). Many of the other burials are their wives, children and extended family. Joseph F. Oliver, who was John and Martha F. Harrison's only daughter's child, was buried there in 1859. Also I think it is interesting that one of the last people to be buried there was William Harrisons daughter, Barbara Etheline Harrison Altheide, in 1958. I was surprised to note the one burial as early as 1834 (Eliza O. Barnett). Except for that one and an infant buried in 1845, it looks like burials started in earnest there around 1855 and ceased in the 1960s. Thank you for all your time and efforts in taking on this project. Madonna in KY

You are related to Dan Finton then. Martha and John were his ggg grandparents. Dan is the one who coppied all this information and sent it to me with the permission of the library. We got to know each other a couple of years ago through our Crenshaw and Crawford lines. I started doing the cemeteries a few years ago but they were not complete and I did not have very many. Dan was so kind and talked to the library and called me and told me that he could send the info to me and I told him what ever they would let him send me to put on the website I would do it so you can thank him too. I don't know if you know him but he lives in Warsaw. He is almost 70. A wonderful man. Dear Shawnee, Michael Turnhoffer was born in 1824 in Germany. He married Francis(Franziska) Scharf October 27, 1861 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw. He died July 4, 1898 in Wilcox Township, Hancock County, Illinois. I am going to check the cemetery listings tonight and if there are any changes I will let you know. Leone Nienhaus
Shawnnee, on the Daughtery Cemetery---Hannah M. Daughtery and Mary Daughtery w/o A. Daughtery----will probably be the wife of Archibald Dorothy---Mary should be the sister of my Sarah Hurst Dorothy , husband John Dorethy, that is buried in Greenwood Ce. in hamilton, Hancock co. Mary's date of birth matches my Mary, and Archibald signed his will in Washington Co. ky with an x--and Daughtery was just one of the spellings that he went by......Until I find different, I am going to assume that this is my Mary Dorothy...THANK you very much for the cemetery listings that you are doing. I have very much family in and around the Warsaw area. Dear Shawnee, Thank you so much for getting all the names in Sacred Heart Cemetery at Warsaw, IL. I have many relatives buried there. I found 1 mistake. Michael Turnhoffer was born in 1824 and died in 1898, not 1961. I am his Great Grandaughter. I want to thank you once again for all the hard work you have done for those of that don't live in Illinois. You are a gem. Sincerely, Leone Nienhaus Winnebago, MN. 56098
Shawnee, just a suggestion. Could you post the url to take us directly to the sites of these cemetery listings when you announce that you have them completed, please? It would make it easier for some of us who have some level of "difficulty" finding things quickly. Just a suggestion.
