    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Albers, Knoop & Ficken Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Eg.2ADI/1149.1 Message Board Post: My great-great grandfather was Jacob Albers who homesteaded in Sherman County, Nebraska. Jacob was born June 5, 1842 in Kleinkirchen, Kingdom of Hanover, German. He migrated to the U.S. in 1866, having been a member of the Hanoverian Army for 3 years, and participating in the War of 1864. He married Betty (Rebecca) Knoop in Brookly in 1869. Betty was born in German, also. Are you of the same Albers family? Also, the town I live in is in central Nebraska in Custer County...a Peter Ficken used to live on a farm just south of town until about 10 years or so ago when he passed away. I know he was from Germany, but don't know anything else about him or his family. I believe his wife is still living. Please let me know if you have any further information on the Albers or Knoop families. Thank you!

    1. [ILHANCOC] Ref to Genealogy Record and wills
    2. Jack sent me this Idea... """"Perhaps a better idea is to find someone yourself, who you know would be interested and trustworthy, and specify him or her in your Will. That was my approach. I felt that my family and Executor would have more than enough to do and should not have to deal with my genealogy files, etc., as well.""""" Jack Ott researching the ROTH family from Karbach >From myself, That would be a good idea, as my grandfather had records, and didn't do anything with them and I found out he was into Genealogy, from an Family ASSOC. he belonged to, when I got in. His records were lost forever. My step grand mother, (whom I have no clue to .her prev. last name), family got everything from my grand father as he passed away 2 weeks before she died. My father controlled everything and wanted no problems with the family. I cannot talk to him about any of this, as he is a control freak in his 80's, and wants no part of Genealogy thanks to my half cousin who is in genealogy. My grandmother and her grandfather were married before my grandmother married my grandfather. The opinions of who was the good vs. who was the bad person, are very different. (My opinion is, that a man that takes on another mans children as his own in way of raising, feeding, clothing, with no support form the alcoholic real father is a good person.) If this statement insults anyone, I am so sorry.) Somehow she insulted him or his mother in some way, as he is VERY protective of his mother. Who knows how. He will not give me any info. on how life was. My mother is under his control and is clueless.

    2. Shawnnee Ramey
    3. Hi All, I have a website of my own and have scanned all the pictures of the family members I know are my Bolt line and put them on the website. Every time I meet a new cousin I send him/her the URL of the website so they can see the pictures. They might have seen the picture in their family photos and maybe have a name or date on the one they have seen or have in their possession. I have been fortunate enough to identify some of them myself by looking at them under a magnifying glass and comparing them to pictures that I know who they are and then have them verified by family members. I do restoration of photographs so I am pretty good at looking at the details. I hope this idea helps others find out who their unknown photographs are. I plan on doing this with other surnames as well. Shawnnee

    1. [ILHANCOC] Great Idea for your Gen. Records
    2. This came to me from another mailing list I am on and I thought it was a terrific thing. I am sure you are all like me and have spent hundreds of hours gathering information, it would be a shame to see it lost in the next generation. Hope it does some good. Genealogical Codicil to My Last Will and Testament To my spouse, children, guardian, administrator and/or executor: Upon my demise it is requested that you DO NOT dispose of any or all of my genealogical records, both those prepared personally by me and those records prepared by others which may be in my possession, including but not limited to books, files, notebooks or computer programs for a period of two years. During this time period, please attempt to identify one or more persons who would be willing to take custody of the said materials and the responsibility of maintaining and continuing the family histories. [If you know whom within your family or friends are likely candidates to accept these materials, please add the following at this point: "I suggest that the persons contacted regarding the assumption of the custody of these items include but not be limited to" and then list the names of those individuals at this point, with their addresses and telephone numbers if known] In the event you do no find anyone to accept these materials, please contact the various genealogical organizations that I have been a member of and determine if they will accept some parts or all of my genealogical materials. [List of organizations, addresses and phone numbers at bottom; include local chapters, with their addresses, phone numbers and contact persons if available as well as state/national contact information and addresses] Please remember that my genealogical endeavors consumed a great deal of time, travel, and money. Therefore it is my desire that the products of these endeavors be allowed to continue in a manner that will make them available to others in the future. 3. Found Your site: www.americanmafia.com They do not answer genealogical questions but do have a forum for inquiries and an e-mail contact for the person who does the web page. have used this site before ,looking for information for a Grandson's research paper, and it was amazingly accurate and informative.. Hope this helps.!! Thanks so much for your posting of the will..I was worried about my boxes of treasures and my time left and just not knowing if I could get the job complete..Just a great idea!!I am blessed with a daughter in law whose occupation is attorney and had always thought she would finish my work for her daughter..but one never knows..I inherited a "Box", photo album ,and some misc. items in 1985..looked at all the pictures, letters, wondered at the ones that had no inscription and made a feeble attempt at listing the children in the family of my Grandfather whom I knew, having been reared by my Grandparents..got bogged down in the first generation..put it all back into the box and tied it and carried it around for the next 16 years. Christmas time of 2001 I thought "gee would it not be nice to have my Great Grandfathers Civil War Records to go along with the photo of him to give my son for a Christmas present..."That little thought has turned into a non stop "WORK" and I am so very Grateful to have had that little thought..
