    1. Re: [ILHANCOC] townships?
    2. Thanks Shawnee! I read all of those that have been posted so far, and a number of them fit the description of the cemetery I was looking for. A couple said that floods had removed any record of who was buried in them, so that made me very sad! I began to feel there was little hope. Glad to hear there are still some records to come that might fit! Thank you so much for all you've done for us. Valerie In a message dated 3/16/2004 4:02:31 PM US Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Montebello is the Township closest to Commerce or now known as Nauvoo. Montebello is south of Nauvoo. Sonora would be north of Nauvoo and would be closest to the river in the North. I have not finished those sections yet so bare with me please. Shawnnee

    1. Re: [ILHANCOC] townships?
    2. Hi all, I am having a bit of a problem locating a former town called "Commerce"? The letter I have was written in 1898, and it claims some of my family (in 1830's) are buried in "a bluff overlooking the River" and were from "..the town of Commerce, now Nauvoo". Does anyone know which cemetery would have been closest to the former village konwn as "Commmerce"? Very close to the Mississippi River? Thanks! Valerie

    3. No problem Valerie. I am really enjoying all the history. I was saddened by the flooding also and realized I went swimming in the river where the cemeteries were when I was a kid. I even looked in some of my Mormon history books to see if I could recover any of the names but to no avail. I will be getting to some more of the Montebello and Sonora Townships shortly. I am almost finished with the Breneman Farm Cemetery and that is such a fastenating story you will have to read it if you are really into the history of the county as well as the Genealogy of the county. 3. Susan's mother and father were William and Mary Lively, both born in KY. Susan was born in Indiana according to the 1850 census but I don't find anything on your W. W. Lane. There were 3 Lane families in the 1850 census but no W. W. Lane. He might have been from Adams County or Iowa.
