Hi, I measured the dimensions of Old Brick Cemetery (the part that is fenced) this afternoon. It is, as the deed says, 20 poles (a pole is the same as a rod) by 8 poles (330 feet by 132 feet), which is exactly one acre. However, there is actually another half acre, not fenced, joining this acre on the east, which also belongs to Carthage township, as part of the cemetery, unless they have sold it. I've made copies of the deeds relating to all the transfers involving the cemetery that I am aware of, recently, from the records in the courthouse here in Carthage. There is an old tree down in the cemetery on the south side, and the fence is down on the north side in one place, and there are places that need dirt filled in. If the photo turned out, I will share (tomorrow) a picture of the spot where the old brick church stood. There has been some serious discussion of having a painting made of the old church, since it was the first church organized (and the building was the first house of worship erected) in Hancock county. I am hoping that will be done in the near future. More later, Robert ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Ray, Great idea..my son works for CBS Evening news I had told him about the situation..but neither of us thought about the newspaper..I was thinking along the lines if he were ever in the Licking Co. Area filming..drop by.. The most frustrating thing is the man doing a recording of the cemetery for Genweb wrote a narative about the condition of the area and what needed to be done..I sent his info to all of them..it is not as if I made it up!!! This man was in the area last July and he reported what he found and the difficulty he was having in getting the information. he put it on line at the site..for all to see .My Great Great Grandfather is buried there..and no one can locate his grave due to the condition of the stones, high weeds, trees down and left where they fell.. I contacted the Ohio Cemetery Preservation Society to see if they would take this one on and they must have the co-operation and a request from the TWP to go to work.. I will get on the Newspaper tomorrow and thanks for the idea!! I have kept all the folks I contacted and what they said and dates.. Hi Beverly, We have a great county and list and I think they want to help in any way they can. Hancock County is a beautiful county and they want to keep it that way. I wish I still lived there. I have a Narcissa A. Kimbrough born 1843. My data shows her parents to be Thomas Jethro Kimbrough and Minerva Ann Boston. I also have a list of her siblings. Contact me privately with your mailing address and I will send you what I have. I can try to send a Gedcom, but I never seem to have very good luck doing that. Sincerely Elva Carle Haughey
Where do you want the pictures sent?
Someone has already seen it and wanted to go mow it. :-) But hasn't got it done yet, and the caretaker had some specific instructions on how he wants things done or not done. :-) Maybe this photo will serve as the "before" part of a "before and after" before the year is over. Let's hope. I'll send the photo to you. Good morning, I was able to take a photo of the Old Brick Cemetery (in the southeast part of Carthage township) last week, but it has only been mowed once a year in recent times, and the caretaker told me that they have intentionally put most of the stones down on the ground because of the concern that they might fall on someone. For the above reasons, the photo doesn't look much like a cemetery, even though there must be 60 burials there. Sincerely, Robert
That is ok Robert, I can put the picture online and add that comment. Maybe someone will see it and want to go mow it LOL. I noted the above message that included some Kimbroughs.I I have a Kimbrough Narcissa Ann as my GGGrandmother but do not know who her parents or her siblings were, or her exact birth date. Would anyone out there be able to help me? I suspect that the Kimbroughs mentioned in the above message are related. I suspect this because Narcissa Ann was born approximately the same time (1843) as some of the individuals mentioned in the message and lived in the same area (Middle Creek). Narcissa married my GGGrandfather Henry Mapes on November 22, 1966. Together they had an infant daughter (Cora Jane) that died at the age of 3 years and is also buried at the old Red Brick Church Cemetery, by the PMC. I appreciate anyone's reply, Don Mapes

Hi, Seekers: Below website will help you to find cemeteries, etc. Just ignore the adverts - I hope this helps you out. I use a site called www.epodunk.com to find out where cemeteries and other things are. It has info for all the states...very good maps with good directions/details. Shirley: [email protected]
I know this has little to do with family history/genealogy research, but since the question was posed, and NOT answered, here's my attempt. And my credentials are that I am in my 13th year of being a 9-1-1 dispatcher for the largest/busiest Public Safety Answering Point in Oregon. We handled 43,463 9-1-1 calls for March 2004, and 76,493 total calls (other emergency & non emergency). Should you call 9-1-1 to help locate a place or piece of information you're looking for? In a nutshell if it's not a life & death emergency, no. I won't comment on the retired officer's comments other than to say, not all 9-1-1 centers/dispatchers are the same, just as not all police officers are the same. Some agencies may have a non emergency #, and they may be able to give directions to folks. But there are other resources, libraries, schools, county offices, etc., to use instead of 9-1-1. Thanks, Tim
