    3. Thank you, Ron. You are definitely right about it being a post office. I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that if it was a post office it was also a town. Perhaps the post offices at that time (1840-1850) were in settlements, not towns, or just in one of the scattered private homes sort of like a pony express station. And yes, the Kibbe museum did have a display of postmarks, and they may be able to tell me a lot more, so I will check there soon. Thanks again. 2. Hi Mark, Yes, I have researched my husband Summers family. They came from No. Carolina to Union County Illinois and on to Tazewell County Illinois where they stayed until their death. I don't think we connect but one can never tell with genealogy. Thanks for writing. Roberta Summers

    1. Summers surname
    2. Hi Roberta, I am studying the Summers family from Montgomery Co. Kentucky, Putnam/Hendricks Co. Indiana, Decatur Co. Iowa, and Mitchell Co. Kansas. My ancestor, Joseph Richmond Kinney was born in 1860, West Point, Hancock Co. Illinois. When He moved to Kansas he married Etta Imogene Summers, daughter of James Harvey Summers and Sarah Marian Hisey. I am curious if you have been studying the Summers surname. -Mark Vernon Seattle, WA

    2. Linda, You would be better off to write the Historical Society. They will look it up for $10.00 and mail it to you. They are really good about helping. I wrote the library in Carthage two years ago for and obit and still haven't heard from them. Have been in there a few times several years ago and they are not a bit friendly. Good Luck. Her husband died in 1840 in Ohio and she is not known to have remarried; at least not in Ohio. To complicate matters, I cannot find her in the 1840, 1850, or 1860 census.
