Hi, Warren L. Van Dine transcribed a lot of cemeteries for his project, but he did not walk down every cemetery that was/is part of his project. Some lists were given to him by others. Hi, folks, The death certificates for the following people indicate they were buried at the Elm Tree, Middle Creek, or Old Brick cemetery. Anyone know anything about any of these people? Henry Wensel, died Jan. 1880 Sarah Norris and infant child, died Feb. 1880 Rosa Davis, died Jan. 1881, age 13 yr, 6 mo, 12 da. Found several others also but they were already on the list. Mary, I went and checked again today, and it appears to me that they either don't have a list by Warren Van Dine, or else the list by Hazel Boston Kelly was done as part of the Van Dine project. Her list omits many stones that are now shown on the Hancock County genweb site. I'm trying to determine whether or how many of the stones on the genweb site have actually been seen by someone in recent years, or whether they have been included due to obituaries saying they were buried there (which would not necessarily mean they had a stone). Robert, If anyone knows of any Van Dines I would be curious to hear from them. My great grand mother Clara was born to Mike Merry or Murry(we don't know for sure) and his wife Oma Van Dine in 1880 in Indiana. Mike and Oma were both born in Ohio. This is about all I can find on this family. If anyone has any access to Hancock co. records and can find any of these names I would like to here from them. Thanks, Ronda [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert L Webb" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, June 27, 2004 2:39 PM Subject: Burial Lists of Old Brick > Dear forum, > The Hancock Co. Dear forum, The Hancock Co. Hist. Soc. has a burial list prepared by Hazel Boston Kelly for the Old Brick Cemetery. In the introduction she mentions that at the time of her visit the grass was cut, but doesn't mention the date of her visit. She mentions testimony by Charlotte Fletcher Boston in a court case, but doesn't give the date or reference it, but says that the ground was used for about five years before the sale (by George Boston to Middle Creek church). This would indicate the cemetery could have been started as early as 1836, in my opinion. There is also another paper which begins "This burial list for Old Brick Cemetery is being entered in the Warren L. Van Dine sponsored project, August 19, 1975." But I did not find the list itself, unless it is the same list as mentioned above by Hazel Boston Kelly. I got the impression there might be another list from the fact that the list on the Hancock County genweb site has quite a few names which are not on Hazel Kelly's list. For example: Rebecca Preston Kimbrough, William Kimbrough, and quite a few more are listed on the Genweb list but not on Hazel Kelly's. If anyone knows where the Warren Van Dine list actually is, or has a copy, and can help me obtain a copy, I would be grateful. I'm trying to determine how recently some of the stones may have been seen. Those which have been seen and included on the two lists mentioned above are probably most hopeful to be found.
