Ray, Thank you for your words of encouragement, and the information you shared from the census. I hadn't thought of checking that. Your message reminded me to check the names of members of the Old Brick church, and I did find that a William N. Weaver joined in August 1866. I don't know the dates of his birth or death, but it may be that he was related to the B. F. Weaver whose stone I found. The death records in the courthouse begin later than 1869, so I know that will not help. Another thing to check is the card file at the Historical Society, to see if there is anything on William N. Weaver, or B. F. Weaver. Thanks again, Robert On Sun, 1 Aug 2004 13:37:10 EDT [email protected] writes: > In a message dated 8/1/04 6:04:46 AM Pacific Daylight Time, > [email protected] > writes: > > > B. F. Dear friends, Found another stone in the Old Brick cemetery, another name to add to the list of burials. There are, I think, over 350 graves (maybe more) in the cemetery. Here is the reading on the one I found Friday: B. F. WEAVER, died July 25, 1869. Aged 22 years, 5 months, 11 days. If anyone knows who this might be, I would be glad to hear from you. I also noticed, today, that there are some small stones with a rounded top, with a raised capital letter on the top edge of the rounded part. It occurred to me that these must be row markers. If so, that will help in platting. Robert ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Dear friends, After mowing the Old Brick cemetery today, I did some looking, and found another stone, broken but complete, including the base. The information on the stone (on first reading, before cleaning): B. For example, I found a stone with the letter "A", another with the letter "D", etc. I measured the wooden bridge, and found it is 28' feet long and 14' wide. There are no side railings. I hope this message will go through, but it appears that messages from the forums across the country are mostly not coming through at this time. Judy, I had the same thing happen. I knew my grandfather had passed in Peoria, but it wasn't listed. I wrote and they sent it to me. Donna Langley From: Judy Burns To: Sent: Monday, July 26, 2004 5:57 PM Subject: Illinois State Archives Death Index I have an ancestor who lived in Vermont, Fulton County, for many years. He died in 1923 and is buried in Vermont. I would assume that he died in Fulton County, however, his name does not appear in the Illinois State Archives on-line index. I have tried name variations. I realize that he may have died out-of-state. But, I wonder if anyone has encountered any omissions in the on-line index. In other words, should I request a death certificate for him from Illinois anyway? Thanks for any advice! Judy Oklahoma City --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. What Huff are they related to as I have a Huff in my family tree. Eileen
Here are some suggestions. If this is not news to you, my apologies for repeating it. If you request the certificate from the state they will likely use the same index as you. I've written an article on using the IL death index, which may or may not help in your situation. http://www.rootdig.com/adn/illinoisdeathindex.html You might have better luck with the county. They will have the same record as the state and the county might have been more inclined to index it "correctly?" Are the death indexes for 1923 from Fulton County available through the Family History Library? Then you could look yourself.
