Dennis has done a pretty good job with this "county place names" site for southeast IL counties. The first time I got this I thought it was a spam mail:-) Scroll down to the county your looking for and it will give place names and PO and dates and former names and in some cases who it was named for. I saw a couple surprises and a couple of questions. One was Eldorado use to be Eldoredo, named for the Elder and Reed families...didn't know that. Another said that Tate Twp used to be called Hull Twp (is this suppose to be Hall???), I have never heard of this.
