But I think you could at least allow the LDS to come and film the records, as has been done for most counties in most states. I think the experience of other counties with the LDS shown that the records are used appropriately and legitimately. I think it would also increase revenue for the courthouse. I know when researching other families in other counties, I generally order the index pages from the LDS, and then request copies of the original records from the county courthouses. For what its worth, I've written to the courthouse requesting copies of the deed index containing the surname COOK. I'll let you all know what their current policy is when I hear from them. Also, the reason for the restriction of certain records because of date is to respect the privacy of living people. Just like we can view census records unless it's been 72 years since the census date, I think something similar might now be required of vital statistics.
