— Leonard E. Russell, 87, of Evansville, Ind., and formerly of Dahlgren, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Brauns Nursing Home in Evansville, Ind. He was born July 31, 1924, in White County, a son of Clarence E. and Ethel (Hasting) Russell. He maried Doris Fay Clark on March 5, 1955, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2005. Leonard retired after 40 years with Whirlpool Corp. In Evansville, Ind., where he served as shop steward. He served as secretary/treasurer of the Union Local 808. He was of the Baptist faith. Leonard was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. During WWII he served in the battles of New Guinea, Bismark Archipelago, Southern Phillipines, Island of Luzon and the Japan Offensive and received six Bronze Battle Stars. During the Korean War he received four Bronze Battle Stars. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren wih the Rev. Kenneth Holland officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Richardson Cemetery near Dahlgren with military rites accorded by McLeansboro American Legion Post 106. Mr. Russell is survived by two sons, Barry Russell and wife Jane of Evansville, Ind., and Alan E. Russell and wife Lisa R. of Evansville, Ind.; five grandchildren, Lee Russell, Kimberly Dewig and husband Gary Jr., Travis Russell and wife Danielle, Lauren Russell and Janie Fay Russell; a great-grandchild, Austin Dewig; a brother, Raymond Russell of Evansville, Ind.; and a sister, Virginia Bullock of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Leonard R. Russell; a granddaughter, Krista Russell; and four brothers and three sisters. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the donor’s choice and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.—
