    3. March 27, 2012 Mt. Vernon Register-News MT. VERNON — — Robert Eugene Dickey, 88, of McLeansboro, passed away 12:01 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2012, at Heritage Woods Assisted Living in McLeansboro. He was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Clyde Everett Dickey and Mayme May “Pat” (Bube) Dickey. He married Mary Madeline (Musgrave) on Feb. 14, 1942, in Morganfield, Ky. and she preceded him in death on March 22, 2005. He attended First General Baptist Church in McLeansboro. He worked in manufacturing. He was the past president of Fairfield local United Auto Workers, a lifetime member of American Legion and VFW. He served in the Illinois State Militia from 1941 to Oct. 1942. He retired from Airtex of Fairfield in 1985. He served in WW II in the Army, Navy and Merchant Marines. He was awarded the WW II Victory Medal, Merchant Marine Combat Bar, Atlantic War Zone Bar and Pacific War Zone Bar. He is survived by sons, Robert “Bob” Dickey and wife Kay of Joliet and Bill Dickey and wife Meg of McLeansboro; daughter, Pat Garside of Mesa, Ariz.; stepbrother, Larry Bullock of Charleston; grandchildren, Teresa (Scott) Ingram, Gretchen (Dale) Biggerstaff, Donald Christensen and Jesse Dickey, all of McLeansboro, Gina (Steve) Parris and Brandon Dickey of Joliet, Tina (Sam) Nation of Fairfield and Gary Garside of Tempe, Ariz.; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Mary. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 106, McLeansboro and Military Honor Team of Marion. The Rev. Robert Sefried and Rev. Jason Moore will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at Garrison Cemetery in Aden. Visitation will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro. Memorials may be given to American Legion Post 106, McLeansboro. Arrangements are under direction of Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro.
