>From the Peoria Journal-Star (IL)   PEKIN - Bettie Lou Glass, 79, of Pekin, formerly of South Pekin, passed away at 5:19 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Pekin Hospital. Born Feb. 1, 1933, in Hamilton County to Luther and Martha (Johnson) Gifford, she married LaVerne Glass on Nov. 9, 1951, in Canton, S.D. He survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Audrey (James) Spracklen of Pekin; two grandchildren, Bryan (Allison) Spracklen of Minier and Andrew (Cassandra) Spracklen of North Liberty, Iowa; two great-granddaughters, Emma and Cloe Spracklen, both of Minier; one brother, George (Dehilia) Gifford of Pickneyville; and two sisters, Dorothy Gifford of Corydon, Ind., and Wanda "June" Filban of Mount Juliet, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents; four children, Betty Lorraine, Charles, David and Jeffrey; one brother, Robert Gifford; and three sisters, Ruby Griese, Inez Jones and Judy Bolen. She was a member of the Community Fellowship Baptist Church in South Pekin. Bettie had worked as an LPN at Pekin Hospital for 30 years. Previously, she had worked at many area nursing homes. She enjoyed doing ceramics. Her memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Tim Weidner will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton. Memorial contributions may be given to her church at P.O.
