JOSEPH â?oMACKâ? HINES, 91, of Belle Rive, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 4:25 A.M. on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor where he had been a resident for one week. Mack was born Saturday, January 1, 1921 in Neelyville, MO, the son of Roy and Leslie (Durham) Hines. Mack is survived by one daughter: Rebecca â?oBeckyâ? Williamson and husband Donald of Belle Rive, one son: Tony Hines and wife Diane of Belle Rive, five grandchildren: Michele (Williamson) Dees and husband Jason of Belle Rive; Tonya (Hines) Wellen and husband Ron of Dahlgren; Scott Hines and wife Jenny of Zionsville, IN; Jeffrey Williamson and wife Jody of Belle Rive; and Mikah Williamson of Belle Rive, nine great grandchildren: Jordan and Jacob Williamson of Belle Rive; Blake Dees of Belle Rive; Adam Wellen of Dahlgren; Logan Hines of Zionsville, IN; Maylynn Williamson and Jacie Dees of Belle Rive; Ashlee Wellen of Dahlgren; and Brooke Hines of Zionsville, and two step grandsons: Brayden and A.J. Dees of Carterville, IL. He is also survived by one sister-in-law: Mrs. Margret Hines of Mt. Vernon, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and an infant son: Joseph Douglas in 1947. He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Ruby Hines of Ewing and Geraldine and husband Gene Taylor of Mt. Vernon, three brothers: Doy and his wife Ollie Hines of Mt. Vernon; Leroy and wife Dorothy Hines of Whittington; and James Hines of Mt. Vernon, and one brother-in-law: Mitchell Hopkins and wife Mary Emma of Belle Rive. He loved the Lord, his family, and people. His family always knew there was someone praying for them every day. His family moved to Macedonia, IL in the fall of 1921. Over the next 19 years his family moved 16 times, all within the same area: south of Dahlgren, east of Ewing, and in Belle Rive three times. He attended Dahlgren High School for two and one-half years and finished his junior year at the three-year Ewing High School. He graduated from Benton High School in 1938. He moved to Belle Rive in 1940 and lived with the Roy Richardson family working for them at the Richardson Lumber and Hardware Company in Belle Rive and Dahlgren. He lived in Belle Rive for the rest of his life. On March 20, 1944, at the home of Rev. David Goddard in Mt. Vernon, he married Melba Fern Hopkins of Belle Rive. They had been married 60 years when she passed away on September 19, 2004. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 until World War II ended in 1946. He worked at the hardware store about 35 years and sold insurance in the evenings. He then went to work for himself as a carpenter and electrician and also ran a trencher service. He was saved at the age of 14; he had been a member of the Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church since the 1940s. He was a deacon, and over the years served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Training Union Director, Training Union Teacher, and trustee. In the 1970s he went on a two week mission trip to St. Kitts Island to help build a church. He and his wife joined Illinois Campers on Missions in the 1970s and worked at several sites in Illinois every summer helping to build or repair churches and church camps. Mack even helped at three building sites this past summer. He also went on three one-week trips to the New Orleans area after Hurricane Katrina and a week to Caruthersville, MO after a tornado the same year. He also went on a mission trip to Mexico in 2005 with the Salem South Association. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, March 12, 2012 at Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church in Belle Rive, Illinois. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 also at Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church in Belle Rive, Illinois, with Reverend Jeremy Hamson and Reverend Kenneth Holland. Interment will follow at Belle Rive Cemetery in Belle Rive, Illinois. For those who wish, memorials may be given to Bell Rive Missionary Baptist Church or to Carmi Baptist Childrenâ?Ts Home and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864.
