- Milford N. Boyer, 92, of McLeansboro, died 10:22 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro. He was born Oct. 25, 1919, in Hamilton County, the son of John Isaac and Laura Jane (Mayberry) Boyer. He married Mericia Roberta Wheeler on Sept. 20, 1941, in Benton, Mo.; she preceded him in death. Mr. Boyer is survived by a sister, Rosalee Tuggle of McLeansboro and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. He was retired from Baldwin Saw Mill Company in McLeansboro after 50 years. He was a World War II Marine veteran, having served in the battles of Ryukyo Island and Okinawa Island. He received the Purple Heart and one Gold Star for his valor. He was a member of Brush Harbor Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Wendy Reed officiating. Burial will be at Brush Harbor Cemetery with full graveside military rites by American Legion Post 106 of McLeansboro. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. For those who wish, memorials may be given to Brush Harbor Baptist Church and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.
