Robert Eugene Miles, 81, of Harrisburg passed away on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Hamilton County Memorial Nursing Home in Mcleansboro. Robert was born on April 9, 1931, in Harrisburg to the late John Albert and Katheryn (Hunt) Miles. On September 27, 1952, he married Roberta Miller and she survives. Robert was a retired Navy chief petty officer aboard the USS Boxer during the Cuban Crisis. He was also the owner of Bob's Lockshop. Surviving family members include his wife: Roberta Miles of Harrisburg; son: Steve Miles and wife Cheryl of Riverton, IL; son: Earl Miles and wife Sherrie of Harrisburg; son: Alan Miles and wife Patti of McLeansboro; daughter: Teresa Golden and husband David of McLeansboro; daughter: Lisa Roberson and husband Michael of Hudson, KY; brother: William "Bill" Miles and wife Barbara of Laconia, NH; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seventeen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Loretta Gilbert, brother: Billy Lee Miles in infancy, and sister: Evelyn Ruth Miles. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Rev. Steve Nyberg will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
