— Laura F. Smith-Viers, 74, of McLeansboro, passed away at 3 p.m Monday, July 23, 2012, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro. She was born Jan. 22, 1938, to Ralph and Dorothy (Johnson) Smith. She married Travis Leon Smith, who preceded her in death; she later married John David Viers, who also preceded her in death. She was a homemaker. She attended Hopewell Baptist Church near McLeansboro. She is survived by two daughters, Tammy Smith and her friend Darrell DeLong Jr., of McLeansboro, and Tabitha Spear and husband John of Carbondale; two grandchildren, Samuel Dorris and Dakota Thompson; brothers and sisters Manuel Smith of McLeansboro. Barbara Carter of Galatia. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, two sisters, Maxine Kittinger and Joyce Eads; and one son, Stevie. Graveside memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Smith Cemetery near Dale with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery. The Gholson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
