West Frankfort Daily American, Wed 1 July 2009. Page 1. Mysterious marker has officials stumped......A bit of a mystery has found its way to West Frankfort. The grave marker of Mary Ann COMMEAN has been discovered amongst a heap of concrete rubble at the city brush disposal site on Route 37. According to Mayor Marion PRESLEY, the pile of concrete was illegally dumped at the site several weeks ago. the marker is recessed into a concrete slab similar in size to a segment of sidewalk. The origin of the grave marker remains shrouded in mystery. Despite research and calls made to several surrounding counties by West Frankfort officials, nothing has turned up concerning the grave marker. West Frankfort Chief of Police Jeff THARP said possible leads in the case of the enigmatic grave marker are becoming limited. "We've exhausted all means except the media outlet to see if anyone has any information on the marker," said Chief THARP.
