Norbert Joseph Wellen, 70, of McLeansboro, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2009, at McLeansboro Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.He was born in Piopolis on Nov. 13, 1938. a son of Albert Joseph and Victoria Ottilia (Haas) Wellen. He married Patricia Ann Sager in September 1966, and she preceded him in death on May 31, 2009. He was employed in the maintenance department at Wayne City High School. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis with Monsignor Joseph Lawler officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 106 of McLeansboro. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery.Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.Mr. Wellen is survived by two sons, Alan Wellen and wife Natalie of Dahlgren and Mike Wellen and wife Dianna of Dahlgren; five grandchildren, Corey Phelps, Cole Wellen, Daniel Wellen, Elisha Wellen and Courtney Wellen; two sisters, Rosalie Tennyson of Dahlgren and Lucy Isaac and husband Rodney of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Urban Wellen and wife Patricia of Dahlgren and Gerard Wellen and wife Juanita of Dahlgren; and one sister-in-law, Juanita Wellen of Dahlgren.He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edgar Wellen; and a brother-in-law, Homer Tennyson.Mr. Wellen was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis and loved to loaf and talk to his friends.
