Edna M. Stitch, 88, of Granite City, passed away at 6:30 p.m. July 24, 2009, at Edwardsville.She was born on Aug. 26, 1921, in Wayne County, a daughter of Virgil and Grace (Scrivner) Buchanan. She married Frederick B. Stitch on Oct. 27, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 2008. She was the director of employee relations at Gliks Department Store for more than 20 years.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Irwin Chapel in Granite City with the Rev. Carl Mesiti officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Burial will follow.Friends may call this morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral chapel.Mrs. Stitch is survived by two sons, Gary and Vicki Stitch of Troy and Thomas Stitch of Westminster, Colo.; sisters, Lola Howell of Jackson, Mich., and Erma Gene Weir of Mount Carmel; four grandchildren, Emily Mills of Fountain Hills, Ariz., David Stitch of Arvada, Colo., and Elizabeth and Christine Stitch of Troy; and five great-grandchidren.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, Leo Buchanan. Mrs. Stitch was a member of Niedringhaus United Methodist Church and was retired from the Eureka Company in St. Louis.For those who wish, memorials may be made to Niedringhaus United Methodist Church and will be received at Irwin Chapel, Granite City.
