Carmi Times Thu Jul 02, 2009 _____ McLeansboro, Ill. - Charles F. Johns, 81, Broughton, died at 1:17 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Ind. He was born Jan. 22, 1928 in Hamilton County, the son of Samuel L. and Caroline (Irvin) Johns, and was married May 25, 1946 in Morganfield, Ky. to Allene Jordan, who died Dec. 26, 1985. He was a retired terminal operator (after working for 32 years) for Ashland Oil Co. and a resident of Broughton and Norris City. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, C. Michael and Marcy Johns of Corydon, Ind.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Tullyne and Edward Oliver of Norris City, and Terri Johns of Savannah, Ga.; three grandsons, Edward Michael Wingrove of Savannah, Ga., Clint R. Wingrove of Cumming, Ga. and Christopher M. Johns of Talking Rock, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, Hunter, Hailey and Chloe Wingrove, and Sydney and Sara Johns; and three siblings, Mary Ellen Beggs of Harrisburg, Floye DeLap of Broughton and Frona Mae Sherrod of Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, the Rev. Randall Ragan officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Hickory Hill Cemetery near Broughton.
