Rural churches burglarized By PAUL LORENZ [email protected] McLEANSBORO - Police are investigating break-ins last week which resulted in damage at five rural Hamilton County churches. Break-ins were reported at Blooming Grove, Delafield, Hopewell, Middle Creek and Mt. Olivet Baptist churches, Hamilton County Sheriff Greg Brenner said. "They basically made a big circle," Brenner said of the pattern of break-ins. At Blooming Grove, a DVD player, digital camera and laptop computer - as well as a hammer - were taken, a sheriff's department report said. At Delafield, canceled checks were taken, several of which were recovered alongside a rural road, sheriff's reports said. A copy machine was damaged at Blooming Grove, and other damage included broken windows, a smashed microwave door, and busted light bulbs, reports said. At least two of the break-ins are thought to have happened overnight Sept. 9. "We're still looking for tires that match prints we found at Delafield," Brenner said of the ongoing investigation. The sheriff's department and Illinois State Police are working on the investigation.

This is becoming an epidemic that needs extinguised. Desecrating a church or a cemetery needs to become a federal offense if it isn't now. This is so typical of today's youth.
