    3. Information sought about poor farm McLEANSBORO - Hamilton County Historical Society is seeking information about this Hamilton County Poor Farm, which was in operation here from the late 1800s until the early 1950s, according to information provided by the historical society. The County Poor Farm was located northeast of McLeansboro on a site where Bill Ingram built his home. The rooms were small, only large enough for a bed and dresser, the historical society information states. It was a time when there was no Social Security or Public Aid; if people were unable to take care of themselves and if they didn't have family to take care of them, this was an alternative. The historical society is researching the poor farm; anyone with information about it is asked to contact Marion Russell, 307 1/2 S. Pearl St., McLeansboro, IL 62859 or call 231-7110.

    3. Does the Historical Society not have an e-mail address? One would think someone in the society would have a computer. I don't quite understand what kind of info they are looking for. We have letters from the 1800's mentioning my late father-in-law was in the Poor House/Farm with some of his siblings. He, at least, was later placed in the Children's Aid Society in Chicago.
