Doris G. Malone, 88, of Mt. Vernon, died at 7:24 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.She was born Saturday, Oct. 22, 1921, in Stewardson, the daughter of Stanley and Cora (Donnell) Pontius. She married Clyde C. Malone on July 7, 1940, in Hamilton County and he preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 2008.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn with Elder Ralph Rockett officiating. Interment will follow.Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.Doris is survived by a son, Roger Malone of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Sharon Metzger and husband Norman of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Mark Metzger and wife Connie of Fairfield and Stacey Martinez and husband Greg of Mt. Vernon; four great-grandchildren, Trey and Justin Martinez of Mt. Vernon, Ryan Johnson and wife Lisa of Glen Carbon and Whitney Johnson of Tempe, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Ervin Malone and wife Jean of Carmi; and three sisters-in-law, Jean Anderson of Flora, Lois Bathe of Bridgeport and Thelma Moore of St. Louis, Mo. Several nieces and nephews also survive.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter, Jeannie Malone; a brother, Don Pontius; two sisters, Agnus Reedy and Mildred Pontius; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.Doris worked at the Benton Garment Factory before she and her husband Clyde ran Rockett's Market in Mt. Vernon for nine years. She was a member of Community of Christ Church in Mt.
