    3. Lois Verdean Allen, 75, of Mt. Vernon, died at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.She was born on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1933, in Dahlgren, the daughter of Otis and Lucille (Cravens) Sodders. She married Lee Allen on Dec. 21, 1973, in Mt. Vernon and he survives in Mt. Vernon.In addition to her husband, Mrs. Allen is survived by two children, Kenny Lomax of Opdyke and Diane Herman of Pekin; five grandchildren, Cannon Lomax of Opdyke, Stacy Cannon and husband Shane of Salem, Lori Townsen and husband Mike of Pekin, Kari Harkleroad and husband Rob of Pekin and Lane Lomax of Opdyke; a sister, Louise Shockley and husband Clyde of Mt. Vernon; 10 great-grandchildren; four stepchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents.Mrs. Allen was a registered nurse at Jefferson Memorial Hospital until retiring. She enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking and was a beloved granny to all her grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Kenneth Holland officiating. Interment will be in Middle Creek Cemetery in Hamilton County.
