Helen Louise Schlensker, 90, of McLeansboro, passed away at 3 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2009, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.She was born in Evansville, Ind., on April 14, 1919, a daughter of Herman and Myrtle (Thomas) Walker. She married Edgar Schlensker, and he preceded her in death on April 2, 1981. She was an antique dealer and collector. She also loved dogs and worked a few years at Denton's Cafe in McLeansboro.She resided in Darmstadt, Ind., until 1952, moving to McLeansboro to farm alongside her husband. After his passing she continued her interest in antiques by attending flea markets in the area, making many friends. She has good neighbors, but ill health led to her moving to Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in 2005.Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Interment will follow at Blooming Grove Cemetery near McLeansboro. Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday until service time at the funeral home.Mrs. Schlensker is survived by her daughters, Jan L. Schmidt of Grand Island, Neb., and Martha E. Peace of Springfield, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, including granddaughter Laurie McVay who saw to her every need while she resided at the nursing center; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Paul E. "Pete" Schlensker; her parents; two brothers; and one sister.Mrs. Schlensker was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.For further information, you may contact Gholson Funeral Home at 643-2321.
