Mary Isabell Wellen, 100, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro.She was born in Champaign County on Jan. 20, 1910, a daughter of John Matthias and Elizabeth (Pfieffer) Wilhelm. She married Herman Wellen on April 14, 1931, and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis; Monsignor Joseph Lawler and Father Slawomir Ptak will conduct the funeral Mass. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Piopolis.Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro; a rosary service will be held at 7:45 p.m.Mrs. Wellen is survived by a son, Robert Wellen and wife Pauline of McLeansboro; two daughters, Carrie Schuster of McLeansboro and Gloria Meschnark and husband Glen of McLeansboro; one sister, Elizabeth Hettinger of Monticello; two sisters-in-law, Lena Wilhelm of Pesotum and Bernice Wilhelm of Tolono; five grandchildren, Ron Wellen, Kenneth Schuster, Denise Campbell, Ronda Rogers and Scott Canon; and 10 great-grandchildren.Mrs. Wellen was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Arthritis Foundation and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.
