Jane Carney Strong, 91, of McLeansboro, and formerly of Shawneetown, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.She was born in Shawneetown on Feb. 27, 1919, a daughter of John Merritt and Madeline (Elsasser) Carney. She married Robert E. Strong on May 1, 1947, at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Evansville, Ind.; he preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1967. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shawneetown with Father Mark Stec officiating. Interment of ashes will be at West Wood Cemetery in Shawneetown. Mrs. Strong was cremated as per her personal request.A memorial visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. today until the time of the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at the church.Mrs. Strong is survived by two daughters, Terry Strong Bohleber and companion Ralph Hovanec of Morristown, Tenn., and Nancy Strong Harre and husband Mike of McLeansboro; four granddaughters, Brandi Bohleber of Macon, Ga., Nikki Bohleber of Nashville, Tenn., Erin Kelly of McLeansboro and Claire Warren and husband Matt of Glenn Carbon; three grandsons, Chris Bohleber and wife Sarah of Knoxville, Tenn., Andy Kelly and wife Krystal of McLeansboro and Mitch Kelly and fiancee Kandi Webb of McLeansboro; seven great-grandchildren, Isaac and Bella Bohleber, Olivia and Max Kelly, Kadyn and Bradyn Kelly and Gavin Kelly; a niece, Joy Rowe of Rockford; and friends too numerous to mention.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert; and sister Helen Frances Rotello.Mrs. Strong was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church n Shawneetown and attended St. Clement's Catholic Church in McLeansboro. She was the society editor of the Gallatin County Democrat.
