Mrs. Aretta Cant, 87, of Zephyrhills, Fla., and a former resident of Dale, died Dec. 21, 2009, at the Hernando-Pasco Hospice in Dade City, Fla. She was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Dale to John and Bertha Emaline (Hubbs) Eaton. She was married to Walter H. Cant, who preceded her in death along with her parents, three brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Cant is survived by a stepson, Jim Cant and wife Barbara of Pocahontas; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several family members, including nieces Sharon Eaton Lasswell of McLeansboro and Patricia Eaton Cross of Madison, Ala. Visitation and services for Mrs. Cant were held Dec. 30 at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home in Troy with the Rev. Tom O'Connor officiating. Interment was in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Edwardsville Township.
